View Full Version : Anyone have a service reset tool?

Hey guys, i need to reset an inspection light in an 01 525i (e39) its getting inspection II, but the dealer said the policy changed and they arent allowed to reset unless they do it themselves..

anyone in the western MA or boston area have the reset tool? we could meet up with you so no shipping involved

i think you can do the reset on those through the dashboard/key?

any ideas on this? i know audi does this but thought bmw needed the peake tool

You can only do the paperclip/key trick with OBDI cars :(

I know this works on a '98 e39..

BMW insp. reset
- Iginition OFF (POS 0)
- Press and Hold the trip odometer button while turning key to position 1 (ACCESSORY)
- Keep the button depressed (about 5 secs.) until you see "Oil Service" or "Inspection" with "Reset" or "Re" in the display
- *Note: On vehicles with "High" cluster, you will also see the amount of fuel (in litres) remaining until next service
- Press the button again and hold for approx. 5 secs. until "Reset" or "Re" flashes
- While the display is flashing, briefly press the button again to reset the Service Interval. After the display has shown the new interval you should see "END SIA" for about 2 secs.
Note that if the "Reset" or "Re" does not flash, then you have not met the minimum consumption level and cannot reset.

From what I know those directions will work on all e39s and e46s.

awesome, ill try that when i finish the inspection
