***This is for a non-M, but I know some of you M3-section guys are very knowledgeable so I'm posting it here also.

My car has been doing this a lot when I'm driving spiritedly and try to grab 2nd from 3rd after rev-matching. Why is it doing this even though my foot has depressed the clutch FULLY and I'm not doing a lightning fast downshift (I'm giving it enough time to disengage). I down faster rev-matched downshifts from say 4->3, or 5->3 and I've never heard the gridning synchros sound during thos shifts - only in the 3->2 shift.

This has been happening quite a bit ever since I had the car converted from auto to manual. Is it a problem with any of the master/slave cylinders? Mind you sometimes this doesn't happen, but it happens frequently enough to warrant a thread on the issue.

HELP! I hope it's not my donor tranny which only has 65,000 kms! :(

Way too many burnouts. Most likely you got screwed with the tranny

try some royal purple synchromax oil in your tranny

Also, your clutch may not be fully disengaging. It may not seem like it, but its possible. Are you running an adjustable clutch stop?

A couple of things:

The 3-2 syncros are going bad. Sorry

Rev matching will do absolutely nothing to ease wear on the syncros. All rev matching does is help prevent tire chirp when letting out the clutch.

Try to actually double clutch the downshift. (more accurately, double de-clutch)

Clutch in, shift to neutral, clutch out

rev engine

Clutch in, shift to lower gear

Clutch out.

This will allow the engine revs to actually spin the transmission input shaft, and all the gearsets in the transmission. (the function of the syncro is to speed up the lower gear to that of the higher gear)

Changing the fluid might help, but if it's grinding, it's probably too late.

Bump. I've noticed that my clutch engages VERY high in the pedal travel, literally half an inch off from the brake pedal. This is a sign of a worn out clutch, yes? Bear in my it never slips even in high gear at low RPMs, which leads me to think the clutch is okay but then why the super-high engagement point?

Could this be the source of the problem, maybe the clutch isn't fully disengaging when I'm changing gears when driving hard?

Does the pressure plate or flywheel have anything to do with this?
