Hey guys.

I am trying to make sure I get the correct part number for the rear glass. I had safe lite come out to my house to replace the glass. The glass they brought was made with the 3rd brake light in the rear deck. My rear wing has the light in it. I looked up the part number on realoem and came up with 51318173661. I have no idea if this is the correct one or not. Safe lite says they only show one type for my car which is the one with the 3rd brake light.

Anyone know how to find out if this is the correct one for my car? I have a 1997 4dr M3

Thanks a ton!

Is this what is written on your glass? I just called BMW of Roswell and they weren't able to tell me if it has the rear cut out or not. I called a few other dealers with my vin and they all give the same number but cant tell me if it has the rear cut out or not. Safelite says they only show one piece of glass for my model and it has the light cut out for it. I just want to make sure before I order this, that it DOES NOT have the 3rd brake light in the glass.

Thanks a ton!

I just looked up my brothers car on realoem with his vin number and he shows the same part number 51318173661 for his back glass. And he has the 3rd brake light on his. So that is probably not the right part number. Im so lost.....:(

You realize that if Safeglass orders it, and it gets shipped and itsn ot the right one, you wont have to pay for it right?

From what they have told me...is that if I request the OEM version I have to pay for it. They said they have no way of knowing if the OEM will be the correct version or not.

I would also rather order it myself since they quoted me $570 for the OEM glass. But they would credit the cost of my old one. Now if I bought it myself they would not refund me the glass they started to put in. Its getting to be pretty frustrating.

Does your car have the 3rd brake light in the rear deck? If it doesnt does your glass have a part number on it? Thanks again for all your help on this.

$570 for OEM glass? Wow, I'd find another glass place. Yes, my car does have a 3rd brake light.
