Does the 328i have a different motor than the 325i (2006) model? I'm aware of the HP and torque bumps in 2007; however, wanted to understand if it's the same basic architecture or an entirely new design.

In addition to power, what are some other differences between the 2006 and 2007 (325i vs. 328i)?

I'm an engine idiot, but I'd start at Wikipedia's BMW Engine page (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/BMW_engines), scroll to the inline 6 engines, and research from there.

This article describes the engine differences: http://www.insols.com/20070507_003512_2007_ENGINE_INT.pdf. (http://www.insols.com/20070507_003512_2007_ENGINE_INT.pdf)

In a nutshell, the 325 has the N52 engine and the 328 has the N52KP (ULEV) or N51 (SULEV). Both are based on the N52; the N52KP is an improved version and the N51 is a super ultra low emission version.
