M50, Vanos and Power Pulleys oh my !

I've heard a lot of talk on these forums about the M50 manifold what is so special about this thing and should I get one for my 99M3 ? Also I fear my vanos might be acting up as my acceleration seems a tad more sluggish than usual is there any diy way to tell for sure ? What are the best performing power pulleys money can buy ? I don't want bang for the buck I want the most hp increase possible and I want good non bs answers please??!!
