Update:
Alright just got off the phone with Eric at SPP.....you can go ahead and start ordering directly from SPP's website......in the comments section put Bimmerforums.com group buy. Also in this section list again which kit you want, bulb type, car model, and the price we got quoted. Again the choices are:
SPP Advanced HID (9006, H1, H4,H7)
4100K $389 shipped
5000K $419 shipped
6000K $489 shipped
The best part about this is that he going to start shipping immediately which is really a credit to how great they are out at SPP. If you have any further questions, call or email SPP and talk to them. Thanks guys, enjoy.
Hey guys, I'm trying to get a group buy started on HIDs from supremepowerparts.com I have already talked to Eric over there and he said he can do this for us. Just trying to see how many would be interested to give him an idea. This is the kit's descprition:
Every HID system uses German made Philips bulbs and ballasts and comes with a wiring harness and detailed instructions even for the novice installer. Warranty coverage is for 3 years. Installation time is 45 minutes to one hour. System includes everything required for a plug and play install.
The price listed on their website is $399 for 4100K, $429 for 5000K, and $499 for 6000K....I'm trying to see how much lower they will go for these kits. What I really like about these kits is the 3 year warranty and the genuine Phillips components. Feel free to go over to their website to check it out.

I am interested in this. :)
However, I do have a question though. What is the difference between the kit for the GB vs. the SPP/Phoenix Philips Xenon 4,100k HID conversion kit that he wants for $540 (below the GB kit on the web page)?
If they are the same parts then why the price difference (I did notice that the more expensive kit has a 5 year vs the 3 on the site)?
Just curious. :D

So the HID kits at supremepowerparts.com use Philips bulbs AND ballasts? I am definitely interested in this group buy if it uses Philips items for both, the bulbs AND the ballasts. Let us know the price. Thanks

I am interested in this as well. Let me know.

wolf:
I believe the more expensive kit is an actual kit put together by Phillips....where as the GB kit has this description written above it on the website:
NEW! This kit is supplied to us by one of the largest and most recognized HID retrofit lighting manufacturers in the world. Having this system private labeled for SPP allows us to offer it at a reduced price to our customers. Every HID system uses German made Philips bulbs and ballasts and comes with a wiring harness and detailed instructions even for the novice installer. Warranty coverage is for 3 years. Installation time is 45 minutes to one hour. System includes everything required for a plug and play install.
Dave:
Yup both bulbs and ballasts are Phillips for the SPP kit.
I'll find out if the GB kit shares anything else with the Phillips kit besides the bulbs and the ballast. Also if anyone wants the Phillips kit instead I'm sure that can be arranged as well. More info tomorrow. :)

I'm game for the 5000k kit. Could you verify if the Phillips ballast spp sells won't trigger the CL? TIA

is the difference in the 5000k and the 6000k substantial, i see alot of people goin for the 5000k unit and im just curious as to why, any other reason besides for price?

OK, thanks for answering my question. As long as the relabeled SPP Advanced HID Lighting System Hardware is the same as the SPP/Phoenix Philips Xenon HID conversion kit then I am in!
What I mean by that, is the GB kit does have the same Philips HW as the more expensive one.
Also, I would be interested in the 5K bulb kit (5.0 for $429 - GB incentive).
However, from what I understand from HID engineering the only difference from a 4,100K to a 5,000K bulb is a blue ceramic coating / tinting on the bulb. They both have the same lumen output but the 5,000K looks more "bluer / whiter".
If anyone can confirm that, I would appreciate it!

i thought the only difference with the 5k is that they tinted the bulb of the 4k, which isn't a good thing.

Well, after browsing around on the board, i noticed that umnitza is going to have an offer for an entire package which I may be interested in.
I'll be watching to see how the GB phase for this is going if anything happens on the other order.

Well guys here is the deal:
If we get 10+ buyers the pricing would be:
4100K $389 shipped
5000K $419 shipped
6000K $489 shipped
So that comes to savings of $20 total including the usual $10 it costs for shipping. I was hoping for a greater amount of savings but from whats on the net these seem to be the cheapest for actual Phillips bulbs and ballasts. Let me know if you guys are still interested. Here are some pics of the actual conversion kit sent to me by Eric over at SPP.

How does this work? I have E46/323i. Does this kit fits halogen H7 headlight unit? And Don't I need projectors also?
OxfordM3
06-04-2003, 12:42 AM
He offers a H7 conversion kit as well. I'm not too familiar with the E46 being an E36 owner so I don' t know about the projectors.......you might want to head over to the E46 forum and ask them.

SharkedM3, does SPP guarantee this won't thow back the low beam failure on the OBC?
I've got 2 interested buyers including myself. Thx.

Hey GSX, the SPP kit from what I hear is a quality kit and is properly insulated....it should not throw a failure from arching. Despite this some people do get a low beam failure message while others do not. This has a lot to do with the installation. In any case check out this web page from someone who actually has a SPP kit. He gives directions on how to fix the failure if you do happen to get one. I will also get more info from SPP tomorrow regarding their kits and any low beam messages. Here is the webpage:

I'm in for 2 6000K sets...how do we proceed?
Still want to hear what SPP says about the OBC issue
Will we run into this issue quoted from the web site SharkedM3 linked to?
UPDATE:The new kit had genuine Philips HID bulbs that were longer than the ones shown above. Because of this, the back cover would not close. To get around this, you need to make a "bulge" in the back cover to provide clearance for the bigger bulbs. I used a a heat gun to heat up the cover (placed in a vice) and once the cover was hot and malleable, I used the back of a Mag-Lite flashlight to "bulge-out" the plastic to provide additional clearance. Take your time here, you don't want to ruin your covers.

On a side note, I was just wondering if SPP has plug and play for ellipsoids so I might be able to order them at the same time?
OxfordM3
06-04-2003, 06:03 PM
By plug and play do you mean for installing ellipsoids or for installing the conversion kit.....everything for the HIDs is included. In any case give them a call to find out about the ellipsoids.
Andrew_KC
06-04-2003, 06:08 PM
i am interested in the same setup
and by PnP i am assuming for the ellipsoid, or atleast that's what i want

Is this true guys? Has anyone else run across this problem?
SharkedM3,
Has Eric mentioned any discounts when ordering ellipsoids w/ HID as a kit? Thanks.
OxfordM3
06-04-2003, 06:22 PM
Jay and anyone else interested in an ellipsoid/HID combination or any other configuration.......your best bet is to contact them directly and tell them you are involved in this group buy and see what kind of discount you can get. They really have been great so hopefully you can get something worked out.

Well I just got an email back from Eric and he said the bulbs are not too long for the ZKWs.
He said that the kit would probably throw back a fault so he can't guarantee that it won't.
OxfordM3
06-05-2003, 01:01 AM
Yea there is no guarantee that the OBC won't throw a fault.......with any kit. I think it has to do with installation and I guess just how sensitive each OBC is for a particular. Some people never have issues and then some have it all the time. :dunno

Also, if I were to order the 4100k HID kit tommorrow, it would be $389 shipped? Thanks

yes, it would
So how many of you guys have placed orders??
Do we need ten to secure the pricing?
When is this GB going to go until? It's tempting:)

certainly if I offer them, they will be cheaper than the competition, but I am not currently selling them individually until the stock of PnPs with ZKWs is fulfilled.

You guys shouldn't worry too much about the Low Beam Failures. When I got my philips kit, it was a little annoying, but after a while I don't even pay attention anymore. I know when my lights are on or off.

that's a good question.
If it is, then it's another reason for me to wait, until I move to TX :)
as for the GB- I'm not gonna get them right now, but would deffinetelly keep them in mind for thei 6000K kit (as their regular price is not much different from the GB one, and it IS cheaper than any other HID kits on line)

Are the 5000K capsules tinted? True Philips 5000K capsules are NOT tinted.
And how does one verify that they are in fact truly Philips capsules? Find out where they are rebased.....

Jay I just installed them this weekend......they look damn good. And no low beam failure! They turn purple/blue when first turned on and then go to a white hew. I installed these and DDE gen V as well.....the HID install was cake but the DDEs took a bit of time since I managed to break some clips that hold the lens. I'll put up some pics later this week.
