Alrite you guys, so my oil inlet pipe from my tranny to radiator was cut by my belt and is repaired now. It lost quite a bit of oil so i'd like to take it in and get a transmission flush and refill of the oil. I've been meaning to do it for some time now anyway. Is there a specific type of oil that is used, and roughly how much would it cost? Thanks

no no no flush. don't do it. it will loosen up the "glue" (crud) that may be holding things together. could cause a transmission failure. a drain and refill, with a filter and gasket change, is all you need. if you have the gm tranny, any dex 3 atf oil will do. i used a synthetic. it took about 5 quarts to refill at $4/per quart. i did it myself. took 3 hours. i also changed the engine oil at the same time since my head was right there. i think you should be able to get it done locally for about $50-75 if you supply the parts. my local indie wanted $200 to do it and supply the parts. pelican has the kit for around $45 for both gaskets and the filter. autozone has the filter and the gasket for the big sump in stock for $18, but no gasket for the smaller sump.

Yea ive been quoted from 80 - 250. So all i want is a drain and refill? I need to have it done soon, and is it recommended that the gaskets and filter is changed as well?
