Tonight I decided to clean my very over due engine. I went to the store and purchased Simple Green, Tire Foam, Brush, Spunge, and rubber gloves.
Before: Dusty yuck

Spray on Simple Green every where, let sit for a long as you want, and spray off.

Yeah. That's funny you mentioned that I just bought paint to replace it. I bought the car with it like that. I promise!

Very nice. I need to do this.
If you clean your alt. it'll make the whole package look better. Not that I'd bother doing it either. :D

Yeah, it would. I didn't know how I felt about that. So I bagged it up. It does stick out now that you mention it.

if you use those armoral cleaner wipes on everything it will make it look all shiny too. i use it to do a quick but effective detail on my engine in between simple green cleanings. also just an idea i think it would make your engine cover look really cool if you painted the strips and the "bmw" part black to give it a little contrast. could be nice. they also make some head light cleaner and it should make your head lights a brand new look. its like a car wax stuff. i've seen it before. other than that it looks great~

That was the first thing I was going to make mention of too! Definitely glad to hear you're going back to the original look. The engine bay looks fine the way BMW manufactured it. Good job cleaning by the way, the engine bay is actually a really fast and pretty simple clean job, and I think it improves the appeal so much more, even on completely stock motors. Good work!

Cleaning wipes would probably get the job done and there shouldn't be any more moisture than it's used to.

Well I was actually wondering if it is possible just by painting that part could cause a 'slight' overheating on that part only. not saying it's gonna overheat the whole engine, just the valve cover may be, since a little bit of coating can slow down any heat transfers. May be I'll paint my whole engine into black:alright lol.

Be careful though. I did that and ended up bogging the engine down and had to spend two days drying it all out.

^^^I err more on the side of spray bottles and copious amounts of rags than using a hose.

I wouldn't mind doing carbon fiber, however, 200+ for that doesn't seem worth it to me. I'll keep it clean and paint it black this weekend.

I believe they came from a 325 convertible. My neighbor owns a shop where they took them off a wreck. I got them for $400.00 :D They are 17s.

Worked out good-- now when you are bored get out the wipes and some screwdrivers and get into all the crevaces:buttrock
If you have an air compressor, you can also spray the simple greed in the crevaces and blow the grime out them wipe off the area.
