I'm not sure if these things are even called window moldings but that sounds about right. Take a look at the images. This is on both sides.
I was quoted ~$1200 replace these by a body shop so I am hoping to do it myself for less.

NOTE: replace hxxp with http.

Any ideas on how to repair? I was thinking about sanding down the entire molding then repainting. Does that sound reasonable? What paint to use
though?

Car is '95 325is.

Thanks.

The PO of my car (who I know), sanded it down to metal. Looks quite nice, just got an issue with some rust spots at the moment.

Here's a pic to see how it came out.

i just did this 2 days ago "roof edge moulding", ordered mine from ECStuning.com for ~85$ shipped. All you have to do is pull the old moulding off and line the new one up and push it into place!

Thanks all for the replies.

SimonSingh, I can't really that well in the pic. You have a better one?

Are you sure that's it ($30.97 on ecstuning). This is on the exterior of the car, not behind the window.

That almost seems too cheap to be true but if it is then I'll probably go that way.

$1200?!?

I believe that shop is trying to rip you off simply because you have an "oh so expensive" BMW..:shifty

Probably. Either that or they didn't understand what I want.

Are there any other places to order these things. ecstuning.com seems to only have the passenger side.

I painted one of mine. Just make sure you mask off really well. I just used a spray can of black paint and the outcome was fine.

Actually, they do have both sides but they only show up with the part number search.

Driver Side: 51131977681
Passenger: 51131977682

$30.97 each.

So I just have to buy these and install them? No painting, sanding, or anything else is necessary?

How hard is it to install? Any tutorial or procedure?

Thanks.

I Just opened the door, got a putty knife and got part of it off, then just pulled it off..When you install the trim start from either front or back, i started from the back, and firmly push it into place.. not much to it!

no prep required!!

Wow, that sounds easy. I'm ordering it now and will try to install in a few days.
