18 button OBC Swap Question Concerning M3 Stalk?

When you guys did the convo and got the stalk did you need an M3 OBC stalk with all the wires like here?

or just the OBC Stalk itself by itself like seen below?

Meaning, does the non-OBC stalks have the pre-wiring for the OBC conversion already so all you did was hook up the new BC stalk? or did you need to have the extra wiring cme with the new OBC stalk?

No. The non-OBC stalk does not have the necessary wiring. Also, the non-OBC stalk does not have the button for scrolling through the display.

You need to have the OBC stalk if you want to be able to scroll through the display. An OBC retrofit will work without the stalk, you just wont be able to use the stalk for scrolling, obviously.

If you have trouble finding one, you can get a euro OBC stalk on ebay and it will work fine as well. It will just have a little extra wiring for their one-sided parking lights. You can just ignore them and follow the normal OBC retrofit directions.

edit - found this somehow... looks like the OP no longer has an e36 but for any future searchers... you do need the wiring attached to the stalk in order to plug it in. the button stalk has more wires than the non-button stalk. i dont know what i was thinking when i first saw this thread & replied back in june. :rofl

No. What I mean is I found a new OBC-Stalk online but it is just the stalk no wire harness. Will that work? or do I need the OBC-Stalk and the wiring behind the stalk?

When you did the conversion did you need extra wiring for the new OBC-stalk, that the old Normal stalk didn't have?

This is totally non-responsive, but...

Why go to the trouble of changing out the stalk at all. I just put a little momentary on/off switch (to control the scrolling fetaure) in one of the blanking plates by the shifter. ALOT less hassle for what is basically a useless feature anyway.

uhm....I may want to sell the car one day and really don't want to have to spend the time explaining extra shit I've added to the car, when I can be using the sametime to haggle the price up.

At the end of the day...stock, unmolested BMW sell higher, quicker and easier than cars that have 1,000 aftermarket-made in japan parts on and in them....
