View Full Version : Is the Mini-Cooper really a chick car?

What's up guys,
I just had to throw out this question to see what the general consensus was on the new Mini. Of course no disrespect intended for guys who already own the car :D .
I have a good friend who is seriously considering purchasing a Mini Cooper S, but whenever he mentions this to friends/coworkers, invariably their is some snickering & snide comments as many people have the misconception that driving the Mini somehow threatens ones masculinity. I think the car tends to project a “cute” image, which most men don’t want to be associated with. Of course he is secure enough in his masculinty to buy whatever car he desires, but what are your opinions?

No, I dont think its a chick car. It has a legitimate racing history and is generally accepted to be one of the fastest (if not THE fastest) car in its class.

Even if it were one, I wouldn't give a rat ass what people think or say. Get what you like, not others like. Don't let others dictate what you want.

I think the Cooper looks badass, especially with some BBS wheels and a suspension job. Make all those closed-minded guys think twice. Also, nothing corners quite like that car, it feels great.

i guess it could if it were painted pink. I like the Mini and I really like how I never seen two identical ones yet...How many different paint schemes, and tops does that car have the option of?

So the question would be:
Civic Type R or Mini Cooper S? :D

Werd. coopers are awesome. chick cars include Beetle, Jettas, Golfs, etc.
As for Civic Type R V Cooper S? Hmmmmmmm. Tough choice. I might just have to go with the Type R - N/A 200 hp (well 197), 2.0L, plus tuned suspension.

I don't consider it a chick car. I consider the E46 3'ers more of a chick's car than the Mini Cooper.

If you put a little flower holder on the dash with a cute daisy in it, THEN it would most definitely be a chic-car.

Speaking of chic-cars... on the way home from work yesterday, I'm cruising down I-45 about 75mph and see this white G35 way back there moving quickly through traffic... as it gets closer, I see its a coupe... I start to get excited and turn down the stereo and shut off the AC (might need all the HP I can get, since I'm down 40 already...).
I'm in the middle lane, and here it comes in the fast lane passing me.. I glance over and its a woman talking on her phone. Oh well no freeway fun today! (I'm not saying women don't race (my wife loves a good race) but this lady wasn't interested) (and I'm not saying G35 coupes are chic-cars) (I'm just typing babble, I think its time for bed)
Sorry for hijackin' the thread

I haven't considered it a chick car even though it is small. But today I saw a boy driving a light blue cooper S and I was surprised to see it. Maybe it was the feminine color, and not the car that caused shock.

Yes? Yes? Come on Sam! Don't leave us hanging like this! :(
Later,

P.S. The white Cooper in The Italian Job looked almost (Dare I say it?) BALLER.
I'd sport it.

I would probably rep an all black one, but personally I think they are a bit feminine.
Just dont be like the guy at that Socaleuros car show and tell people (me) that you can hang with any streetbike ever built on the track.:biglaughb

Seriously, I'm trying not to think of it as a chick car.....but I just can't visualize most of my male friends driving one:dunno

Well, how about I shed some light on it being a guy (I consider myself to be kinda masculine at that) who drives a MINI. I've got the non-S base Cooper, with cosmos body and roof. I get a lot of mixed reviews from people when they look at my car. Some people say "man, that things awesome!" some of them say "how adorable!" and some say "dude... your car is fuckin ugly".
I really don't even think twice about what people say about my car until they've gone for a ride.... and I've still yet to have one person get out of the car when they were in it for one of my "spirited" driving ventures and say anything but praise. All my "car guy" friends are blown away by the handling, and all my non "car guy" friends are fucking scared of the handling :devillook
Anyway... I love my car... and it handles like crazy... I don't care if other people think its a chicks car :dunno
btw, I'm also 6'3 275 pounds :D

No, I don't think it is a chick car. I would honestly say it would appeal to many females though. It comes close to other smaller cars like the Beetle & Civic coupe. But as with the Civic, it can be quite a monster. I wouldn't care what people say, size doesn't matter...... .

From personal experience chicks do like the car and I like that.:boobies My only problem is my wife is usually with me when the hot chicks are interested in looking at the car. All the real CAR GUYS know why we buy the car. Please take a look at the videos on the site.

I'd like someone to tell it to my face...
It's funny though.. Every woman that rides in my car, or see's it, comments on how cute it is...
I jokingly reply - "it's not cute, it's cool."

I have to admit, the Mini is NOT a chick car, but I do agree the VW Bug is...
Russ, I've seen your car at Pro-Imports man, it was looking HOT! :D I love the blue color!

Chris - thanks man!
At first I had some reservations - that was just the macho side of me. Once you toss it through a few turns - you completely forget about the "cute" factor.
I'm not going to do too much to that car. Probably get some rims and tires, that's about it. I'm thinking the SSR Comps - Anthracite finish would look pretty cool with the black top.
They have A LOT of stuff coming out for the Cooper's - I hope I have the will power to hold off from going over board with this car too!

SSR comps would look SICK on your car man, that's going to be awesome! :D

Just because a car is small doesn't make it a chic car, I mean if you want to try to compensate for something that's your issue not mine. Don't bag on it just because you can't handle it!
I've wanted a MCS since I first saw it in my rear view mirrior on my way to work a year and a half ago. I don't know if it's cuz I used to own a 98 GTI VR6 and love that hatchback style or what but, the car rocks!
