So, how does this work? Is it $220 or $240? Do we already have 10 buyers?
Also, when using PayPal, where do you put your account name 'CRAYZEEM3' and 'KBW91347'? Is that last # the part number?
Thanks for all the effort putting this together! I'm ready to order as soon as this and the questions above are clarified!
Thanks!
John.

///M3Dave -- This does include a throw out bearing (It's a e34 M5 clutch kit)
Andy W -- Not sure what you mean by sport clutch. If this clutch can handle the power for an M5 wouldnt that be considered sport enough? the M5 clutch is more than plenty for our cars.
John in Houston -- Sorry that was the exact email that he sent me, i modified a couple of things so it would apply to everyone interested in the groupbuy. As for the groupbuy price, wesley has gotten back to me yet about how many people have actually paid. So there now way for me to tell how many people are interested in this set. Give me a day or two to figure this out with wesley.
When you paywith paypal on the title please Use Both CrayzeeM3 and the 'KBW91407' part number.

KBW91407 is a SACHS clutch kit made in Germany, an O.E.M. clutch kit for '93 BMW M5.

do you recommend this if my mods will include only a header, euro intake, euro hfm, exhaust, track pipe and chip?

Yup, right HERE (http://www.bimmerforums.com/forum/showthread.php?s=&threadid=100620&perpage=25&pagenumber=3) organized by CrayzeeM3 too. That's what brought about the GB for the clutch kit.
GB on the LWFW is 5 people. I think we already hit that based on posts in the link. 10 for the clutch kit is going to be interesting.
I'm in on the clutch kit.
Whats the tally so I know when to send the $220 + $20 shipping?

Everyone else who paid, thank you. I will call him up in a couple of days to check the status.
Well, I just went for a ride in a customer car that I installed the M5 clutch and UUC 8.5 lb flywheel into...
The clutch is about 1/3 the effort of the M3 Sachs Sport Clutch and TC Kline lightweight flywheel that was in the car.
Hook up is great. It engages quickly as a newer clutch should. Now the weak point in the system is the tires. The owner will roast the tires down the road instead of slipping the clutch like he once would.
SOUND: Dead quiet idle just like my stock clutch and flywheel. These guys that are having a loud rattling idle with this setup must have something else wrong. This car sounds as good as stock.
Acceleration was great. Although that is what I would expect from a car with that much power. The owner was very happy with every aspect of the new clutch and flywheel...especially the price. Don't even ask me what I charged for the install. It was half of the best price I have seen here on Bimmerforums. At least when I change my clutch and flywheel, the engine and transmission are already out of the car. That will make things much easier!

Not to question their integrity, but are you guys actually getting genuine Sachs components? Your clutch disk should look like this:

whats up, some people have gotten their clutch, others are being told they won't get theirs till next month?
John in Houston
07-02-2003, 08:51 AM
Actually, it's really quite understandable. Think about it... how many E34 M5s are over here? Then how many require a clutch each year. Sachs doesn't have 100 - 200 clutches laying around. 10-15 purchased at one time would put a serious dent in their stock... especially since it sounds like buyclutch.com is going straight through Sachs.
I'm willing to wait... was just surprised that I was at the bottom of the list after paying so soon.
Hell... it's not like my flywheel is here yet (should be today according to UPS)

well i just got back from the mechanic. the clutch pedal has to be put almost all the way to the floor to engage the clutch but only a minimal movement or release to disengage the clutch. almost feels like it did when my clutch master cylinder was failing. but my mechanic assured me there were no leaks and that the slave cylinder was just unbolted and not removed. i guess it is a trade off for the increase in speed. it realy made a difference in the low end where i lacked power after the cam install. now i can feel power throughout the rpm range, cause of how quick it spools up to 3-4k, where the cam power kicks in most, as of before it took a bit longer.
i will wait to see how your guys install went, and how the clutch pedal feels to see if it similar like mine

rahul, did u get the ///M3 slave cyl with your lwfw and ///M5 clutch. i have issues mainly with the clutch engagement and dissengagementpoints. it seems like i have to place the clutch pedal almost to the floor, and raise the pedal only a inch or 2 to release the clutch. i also have a slight difficulty in shifting gears. maybe this is all part of the break in, since i know i can't adjust anything since it is a hydraulic clutch system. maybe you or rob can help in assuring me everything will be all good after a while.

Any luck raising the pickup point? Did you install an M3 slave cylinder?

i never replaced the slave cylinder. i must have just gotten used to the clutch, or it finaly broke in cuase i don't have the problem much anymore. i just went past 500 the other day but will still only go all out when necessary, like for passing.

Seems to work well. No effort to clutch pedal at all. I'm getting use to it though. The pedal is a little higher now & I would like to adjust it. Is t possible to adjust the pedal height?
thanks

with a hydraulic clutch system there isn't anything to adjust, just a couple of clutch cylinders, and fluid is what comes into factor.
matt s- my clucth has been broken in by now with over 700 miles on it. the pedal effortlessly pushed to the floor at first, and i was used to a lot of back pressure (pushing the pedal back up). it all seems fine now, i don't have to push the pedal to the floor anymore like before to make sure i have shifted and the release is back to normal

still waiting...any news yet since it is now august, and i believe one member was told that they would come in august. running a little short of patience here since i paid for these (2) almost 2 months ago, and have one clutch barely holding on and another one headed that way in the near future.

Okay, I also installed the UK version of the pressure plate with the E34 M5 clutch and throw-out bearing. My clutch releases towards the top of it's travel.
Obviously, there is some difference in stacked height if the non-UK version is releasing at the bottom and this one is releasing at the top. FWIW, the stacked height of the M3 flywheel, clutch & PP was slightly different than that of the UUC flywheel, M5 clutch and UK pressure plate. Nothing that big... or to worry about.
After 500 miles, this thing grips like mad.
PS - I did not get a clutch alignment tool with my kit... so be ready to purchase one or fab one up.
My kit from this group buy DID come with an alignment tool and new pilot bearing.
I have two Dinan M3 pressure plates and clutches laying around and when comparing them to the Sachs unit I bough in this group buy, it looks like the fingers on the Dinan pressure plates do not extend as far as this M5 pressure plate release fingers.
I have not yet compared throw-out bearings.
Dinan also lightens their pressure plates, but I can't really tell how. It is noticeable lighter...but then again, the flywheel is a little heavier.
I think that the pressure plate difference may be a large part of where the clutch pedal releases. Clutch slave cylinder might contribute to this as well. 325 vs. M3 clutch slave...is there much difference?

No joke, I had a hell of time with it. I ended up borrowing a universal tool from a mechanic friend.
Did you have to reduce the diameter at the tip where it slides into the pilot bearing?
John in Houston

Yup... also had to remove materials at the spline area. Both are 10 spline clutch discs... but the ford has a bigger input shaft than the BMW... so ground some of that off too.

Just thought I'd let everyone know that I'm having some issues with the pressure plate and/or the throw out bearing. I have the UK pressure plate, but did not check the difference in stack height between the factory setup and this one.
My release point is near the top with minimal pedal effort, much less than previously.
The problem is a the bottom of the pedal. When about 1" from the factory clutch stop, the release fork is contacting the pressure plate. I have tried the 328 and the M3 slave clylinders with the same results. I have a few pictures of the contact on the pressure plate that I will try and post up in the next couple of days.
So I'm consider whether to look for the real deal pressure plate or to just run and clutch stop and hope to not have any more problems. Also, I have about 275 miles on the new clutch so far.

Huh.... I don't have that issue with my UK PP. Wonder what the difference is?
FWIW, I added a UUC big boy (got it free with my SSK)... definitely helped out.

I wonder if there was more than one "alternate" PP used... another reason it would be good if anybody could find part numbers on the pieces they received.

Hey Rob, I called and talk to you earlier this afternoon. Thanks.
I took a few pictures of the parts before I installed them. I just had it back out last night, but didn't happen to look. I've got pictures of the PP from then. Maybe I can pull a PN from that.
I'll keep everybody up to date.

I just got this from BuyClutch.com (the grammar could use some work...).
"There is no difference in specs between SACHS & UK pressure plate. Most of our customers for M5 clutch kit is using the UK pressure plate, and all of them are fine. What's drawing my attention is that the fork touched pressure plate. Normally the gap between fork& pressure plate is 2-3" including the height of T/O bearing. Even if we consider the difference in the thickness of new & worn-out disc/cover, the parts does not make such a big discrepancy unless they are visually shorter or higher by 2-3" or more.
This unusual case mostly happens when the flywheel is changed, forks are bent, or thehydraulic/slave is damaged. If they replaces flywheel (especially non-BMW dealer,A/S market one) , this will commonly happen until the flywheel is re-surfaced to fit the clutch kit.
The SACHS T/O bearing should have number 3151 231 *** on its body. "
It sounds to me like they're not sure what's going on either. The release fork looked perfectly fine to me, no funny bends or abnormal wear.
Rob Levinson

If you still have your original flywheel and clutch components, please do an exact comparison to the new parts.
When using the correct clutch kit, the stack height should be identical.

I'll see what I can do about removing the tranny again. It might be up to a week before I can get to it.
Here are a few pictures. I've provided links as they are unalterned from when I took them. Hopefully somebody with better eyes or monitor than me can read some part numbers from these.

I found a better monitor
here's what I can read
PP fingers (what are they really called?) have KC 2621
PP itself has Made in Great Britian (made in and great britian are a significant distance apart)
I can't make out the PN on the PP though...

Not that'd you'd do this, but I've seen similar issue when folks have not torqued all of their pressure plate bolts completely, allowing the disc to "tilt". Because of the pressure plate being spring loaded against the disc, you have to torque each bolt at least twice to make sure they are all completely seated, obviously working in a circular or star pattern between the bolts.
Matthew C Smith
08-08-2003, 09:50 AM
I guess it's one more thing to check if I pull the transmission out again. I torqued them all down a couple of times though.
I'd think that if that were the case, then the wear ring would not be present the entire way around the pressure plate, but just in the high or tilted spot. Maybe not though.
At this point I'm thinking of just ordering an e34 M5 PP from BMW and going from there. The clutch appears to be the exact one spec'd by UUC. Maybe I'll order a T/O bearing too just to be on the safe side.

I love the new clutch. My friend with the 325i has the stock clutch on his car and it feels really hard to me. Mine is smooth and not extremely soft but, soft. Coupled with a clutch stop from UUC this set up, i am extremely happy with.

You can swap the clutch slave cylinder from a 325 if you want the stock feel and engagement point back.
