98 bmw 528i in limp mode

My wife was driving my 98 528 i last in a torrential downpoor down in Orlando fl , all the sudden the abs and the asc lights came on and the tranny went in limp mode with just 2 gears, any ideas what the problem is? Thanks.

ABS and ASC both use the same wheelsensors. Think in that direction.

I was thinking some kind of tranny sensor somewhere. Usually when cars go into limp mode it is because there is a problem with the tranny. It goes into limp mode so the car dosnt damage the transmission any further. If a seal or something was cracked the rain may have leaked in and caused the sensor to short. That might have done it.

So you're going for a guess diagnosis?
You need to have a shop pull codes from the EGS module, guessing isn't going help.
This also appears to be the wrong section.

My 7 Series did the same thing after I drove through a large pool of surface water on the road. ASC and Brake warnings followed by transmission error came on etc. I was suspecting an expensive fix but everything returned to normal after I left it in the garage to dry out for a week. I haven't had any errors since.
