View Full Version : 335CI roll over protection?

Search didn't turn up anything, so I'll ask here...

Does the 2008 335CI retractable hardtop convertible have any additional rollover protection than the hard top? And, if it does, does it activate if the hardtop is in the UP position?

Lastly, can anyone direct me in the direction of any technical documents that might shed more details on the system and/or the structural integrity of the roof.

Thanks in advance!

I would guess there is some kind of protection as the hard top is not strong enough to survive a rollover + the absence of the B pillar. Usually the rollover protection is integrated into the rear headrests. Did you check out the BMW website? They usually describe this kind of stuff in their safety section for that specific model.

I did, but the only model specific info I can find is for the 335i coupe.

thanks!

Roll-over protection.

You and your passengers are assured of a robust and protective occupant cell, even if your Convertible or Roadster overturns, thanks to the roll-over protection system. Within a fraction of a second, your safety is enhanced by additional head protection.

Together with the highly rigid A columns and reinforced windscreen frames of every BMW Convertible or Roadster model, the roll-over protection system creates a safe "occupant cell" should the vehicle overturn. Roll-over sensors activate special high-strength roll-bars that are integrated in or behind the seats, ensuring there is sufficient clearance for occupant's heads in the event of an accident. The integrated seatbelt system ensures that you and your passenger are restrained firmly in your seats.

Wouldn't Matter If The Hard Top Could Support The Weight In A Roll Over Or Not.... What's It Gonna Do When The Top Is Down?

Lol

Yes, There Is Roll Over Protection..... It's Prolly Active With The Top Up, Too. But Not Sure.

Wrong section. You should post this in the e46 section.
