I believe it is a 4". But your will have to modify an aftermarket speaker to fit. Try checkin out Bavarian Sound Works website. BSW.com They have a lot of E36 speaker equitment. Hope this helps!!

The bezel is approx. 100mm OD, but the speaker that fits into it is technically a 65mm. That is the actual cone size though.

You are not going to get a 4" speaker in there, not without changing the bezel/grille assy.

OK, here is the problem. Nokia and us (HK) made speakers to fit those bezels exactly. They are small, round and have an exact fit inside the grille bezel.

Yes, you could find some aftermarket speakers to fit it without mods, but you will more than likely have to cut/grind/mod some part or another to make it work.

Take your Nokia speaker out of the grille, take it along to your preferred car HiFi shop, and ask.

I'm not ducking the question here, it's just that there are so many possibilities.

+1 on BSW their "speakers that are directly below the tweeters" a.k.a., the midranges, fit perfectly into that spot. Their speakers come with what I imagine is like a molded plastic piece, about 5/16" thick and hangs out over the edge of the actual speaker. This ensures a perfect fit into the grill for the midrange.

EDIT - No, it's not 4" either. I think BSW says 2.5" but I'm too lazy to go and confirm that. http://www.bavariansoundwerks.com
