Hey guys-
I think I need a new starter :( She's sitting at the Wal Mart on highway 2 right now, and won't crank over, but everything electric seems to work, leading me to beleive the alternator is fine....So....what should I do? is anyone available to help me replace the starter soon? Obviously, I'd have to get the part from Husker to get it done quickly, if that is what is wrong. Should I have it sent to Autoworks to check it out first?

AGGGGGGGHHHHHHH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Without my car is not good!!!!!!!

Have you already tried to jump-start it? My recent Jetta experience, along with some past problems, has taught me that a dead battery can look like a lot of other things. Sometimes you'll have enough voltage to light up the dash and what not, but not enough to trip the starter solenoid.

The bad news is that if it is the starter, that thing is a real pain, I don't know how you'd change it without pulling out the tranny.

If needed, I can probably try to help you jump-start it tonight after work... I'm leaving on wed. for TX, though, so I won't be much help as far as fixing it.... sorry!

Armen-
I tried to jump it, but nothing. I may try again, but pretty sure it is the starter. I heard that at hey are a pain to install.....

Be sure to check all the fuses, too... I don't know if there is a fuse on the ignition circuit, but if there is that could be stopping you.

Also, were you jumping it with the terminals under the hood or on the battery in the trunk? I'd try both places just in case.

tried trunk....I'll give you a call tonight, if that's ok, to jump it. What time works for you?

It was about 10:30pm last night, and I didn't have my flashlight in the car, so I wasn't able to really get under the hood to makse sure everything was kosher.

Tonight will be tight since we have study at our house, and getting ready to leave... but sometime between 6-7:30, probably. I did finally get the Jetta fixed! Bad ground connection on the starter... bad week for german starters apparently!

Adam - new plan, I'll be home a little before 5. I'll give you a buzz when I get home and we can plan. I saw your other thread, and it does sound like the starter solenoid is hosed, but maybe we can get it fired up and you can at least drive it somewhere to save a towing fee. Sorry I can't help you fix it! (you want to borrow the escort ? :) )
