Anybody here order a different gear shift knob on their E9x? I ordered a 328i coupe with a black interior and gray poplar trim. But I just don't like the stark look of the brushed aluminum or stainless knob on the stock shifter. It'd be differeint if I were getting the brushed aluminum trim.

Anyway, I'd like to get either a black one or in wood trim that matches the gray poplar. Both are listed on the BMWUSA accessories page for around $150. Pics from the BMWUSA site:

High gloss black:

Poplar (I'm assuming its available in the gray poplar):

Thoughts?

The 2nd one would look out of place and too tacky with your interior. My advice is wait till you get the car then decide. It is easy to install and you can better judge how much you hate/like the standard knob and how another one might look like.

That's the way I'm leaning, too.

Probably sound advice. How are they removed/installed? Pull off or unscrew? And are they glued in any way?
