After a wonderful two year love affair I've sold my e46 M3. I need something that can sit at the train station all day. I'm thinking about a mini cooper S but im a little tentative about driving one. My wife's giving me crap about it :help. The other thing that bothers me is that I'm paying more for it than I sold my M3 for :confused

I drove one today and fell in love with it. A little more power and it'll be just as fun as the ///M

well you could find a used one more in your price range. But if you are looking for specific options, then by all means go new.

I've been thinking about the same thing, they are an absolute blast to drive, espescially with some nicer suspension bits and a bit more power. The extra gas mileage would be nice as well. But my wife and friends would give me so much f-ing crap for having one.

thanks for killing my thread. The whole point was to get opinions from outside the mini faithful.

I have been driving a base Mini Cooper as a dd for the last year or so and it is a fun little car and great on gas. I have had a couple people give me crap, but not much. The couple people I have taken out in it were surprised how cool of a car is was even with no supercharger.

I am selling mine just because I moved up north and am going awd.

i fell in love with one as a work car at an old job. just a base model...slow as crap, but got great MPG and was a blast in corners.

I love em, and want one in a bad way!

My friends love mine tho.. guys or ladies (but the ladies go nuts tho :stickoutt )
decent gas mileage even when I push it really hard
fun as Sh*t if you mod it a little bit and it is surprisingly quick... and it can be FAST too. 300whp +

I sold mine so I could buy an E46 M3, and it sits at the commuter train lot all day. /shrug

I'd be careful on tuning. North of 230 or so whp, you're talking a need for forged pistons, new head, etc. The basics are safe enough (pulley, intake, exhaust), but try not to get into the horsepower competition; they just weren't meant for that. For a FWD car, it was as good as I ever owned (particularly with the Quaife), but it still had its shortcomings, and I don't regret the decision to get rid of it one bit. Besides, the wife still has hers, so... if I want to go thrash it, I can. :)

I recently went from an E36 M3 to a MINI S, and have zero regrets. These cars are a ton of fun. Anyone who gives you crap about it has never driven one. I did the usual mods, and it scoots. Handles great, and great on gas (if someone laughs, find out their mpg's. Then laugh). You will not regret it.

Maybe it's just luck that no one gives me crap about anything I drive... or maybe it's because it's pretty obvious I wouldn't give a ___ about anyone who did:D. Either way, the potential for someone giving me crap has never swayed me from buying anything I like. I can't imagine being that... I don't know a kind word for it.

I work for a BMW/Mini dealership.
I raced a $40,000 2008 Mini Cooper S JCW edition in my old lightly modded 95 M3 and obliterated it. Trust me, you'll regret buying it.

Why is it that almost everyone with an 07 join date is a total douche. I really couldn't care less about who I can beat at a stop light. If I wanted a faster car I would have bought one.

I've been keeping my eye out for a 05 for the last month or so. Their resale values are just short of phenominal. I'm afraid to even give the R56 a test drive since my plan is to buy the MCS and keep my e36 too.
