I just purchased a 07 335i sport package and am wondering if it comes with an alarm. I got the key fop that starts the car, opens the doors, and unlocks the trunk. Just wondering if this was part of the alarm or if I have to put one in. I'm new to the e90's and just want to know if my car is protected or not.. thanks all!!

The audible alarm system is a dealer-installed option and is not included in the sport package. There are many posts throughout the forum about the purchase & installation of the alarm system. The key fob does provide a small amount of theft protection, however, the alarm system provides a siren, hood switch, and interior motion sensor activation.

I ordered the dealer installed alarm. I've had bad experiences in the past and wasn't about to drive away without one. I'm not sure how much better it is than not having an alarm, but it gives me piece of mind (false sense or otherwise). For a car like this, BMW should be ashamed for not including the alarm and remote start on the car. I assume the remote start is a technological issue, but it still should come equiped with these features in this price range.

$335.00 for the alarm kit per the accessories book. Most should be pre-wired for the alarm, and IIRC the dealer has to program the car to let it know the alarm has been installed.

i just installed the BMW factory alarm. It is very easy to do, took about a half hour. Everything is pre-wire, you just plug in the parts. After it is installed, the clown nose will blink when locked but the alarm doesn't actually work. as stated before, you must go to the dealership so the can turn it on. I thought that it would take them a simple few minutes to do but this isn't true, it takes about 4-6 hours to calibrate all the sensors, they charged my about $130 for that.

Wow, $130 for 4-6 hours of work seems pretty good. Usually they quote $100/hr at some shops.
