View Full Version : How to clean cloths used for wax and other cleaning?

I'm not a big clean freak for my car, but I do try to do a proper cleaning and waxing occasionally. My problem is that each time I do this my applicators get all gunked up with wax and cleaners. I'm using the terry cotton kind, and they seem impossible to clean. I'd rather not chuck them in the garbage each time I use them as this will get expensive.
Any solution for this problem?
Thanks,
Garth

Have you tried soap and water?

Yup I tried that. It seems that the cleaners/wax are stuck in the cloth enough that washing the cloth normally doesn't get the stuff out. Maybe I am using the wrong kind of cloth?

I just treat them like my clothes and throw them in the washer..... Of course without the clothes.

You can wash them in the washing machine on the "light" setting, with the "extra rinse" cycle if there is one.
Don't use very much soap (you'd be surprised how much is probably already inside that washing machine -- try running a cycle with no clothes and no soap and open the door halfway through sometime...lots of suds) and definitely rinse them by hand if you don't feel the machine rinsed them well enough.
Bleach is OK if it's really necessary.
