Hey guys im new to this forum so sorry for being so nooby. Now to my question, I am in the current process of learning how to drift. I am only 16 btw.I am looking into the Early to Late 80's 3-Series BMW b/c they have the 3.73 LSD's and are very tail-happy. Only one problem, I want to swap in the m50 motor b/c I want a upgraded motor. I have been searching my butt off to find a M50 used engine, but no luck at all.The car I found is about $2.8k, and it has 138,000 miles on the engine. I was wondering is anyone knew where to find a M50 or recommend another swap(legal so I can use it for school) and the estimate price it will be to do the swap and have the car running. Thanks again for your time and effort for actually reading this.

You're new so I won't give you the usual treatment newbs get. There is an e30 (late 80's) forum where there is lots of info on this swap and you should search before posting anything for your first 100 posts since most of them will be useless
Not all e30's had LSD's most don't just is's and maybe it was an option on non is's but I'm not sure.
To be honest if you're trying to learn how to drift the M50 isn't going to make you any better. You'll be fine with an m20 and then if you blow that then put an M50 in it. Go to organized events and learn the smart way. Drifting isn't my cup of tea but if you like it then have at it

Thanks for the info man, of so if I were to turbo charge the m20, would it help at all?

a stock m20b25 @ 168HP already has too much power for you. Learn to drive that first.

turbo M20's can be very quick, but the point is that you'll be fine with less power learning to drift. It's more skill than power. Go to a few drift events and see how well your car will drift with the m20. Also search the e30 forum, there are hundreds of posts about boosting M20's

Also something tells me a 16 year old doesn't have the resources for an engine swap.
