View Full Version : Completely removing car phone

My father has a 1998 740iL that has the built in telephone in the center armrest. It's at my house right now so that I can change an ignition coil, the plugs, filters, hoses, thermostat/housing, and maybe a belt.

While I have the car, I'd like to get rid of the cell phone. Is there an aftermarket armrest that doesn't have the phone in it?

Second question:
When I start the car, the phone makes a LOUD beeping sound. How can I make this go away? I'm pretty sure it goes through the stereo, so I can't just remove a speaker.

I'd really like to get rid of all evidence that this car EVER had a built in telephone.

What about turning off the beep when the car starts? Any insite on that?

Turn the volume down from the steering wheel

Alright, that sounds like a good plan, but I can't seem to figure it out. Can you be more specific?

I've never actually removed a phone from an E38, but i'd imagine that once you disconnect power to the phone itself that beeping will probably go away. I'd dig in there and try to find the wiring going to the phone assembly and disconnect it to disable the phone...

Yeah, they actually work very well. We used to have the ones in the E32's connected and they get better service than any cell phone.

That's the wrong piece. There are 2 of those, and the phone is in between.
