So I always thought the IS was one of their more serious "driving" cars that continues to secretly copy and then publicly pretends to compete with our 3 series. That was until until I looked inside of one...

WTF is this supposed to be!? An odometer designed for the super duper ADD crowd?
http://i143.photobucket.com/albums/r158/olaf2046/JTHBD192420035262_8.jpg

Either way this should be illegal at a time when you gets tickets for using cellphones because they are distracting...this whole ricer-styled inspired odometer layout is freaking beyond distracting...it's disturbing!

http://i143.photobucket.com/albums/r158/olaf2046/JTHBD192420035262_7.jpg

Not so bad looking when its in your rear view mirrors, which is where it belongs when you are driving a BMW.
http://i143.photobucket.com/albums/r158/olaf2046/JTHBD192420035262_4.jpg

Then again with tail lights like these how can you imagine that you would take this car seriously after looking inside.

Wow, lot of hate coming from someone with an anemic 1.8l 4 banger.

That instrument cluster is not very hard to read, and it's been often praised for its novel design. The interior construction is pretty good, and so is the build quality on the rest of the car. Not to mention the IS was the first car to EVER have those taillights, they actually belong there.

So did you actually drive it, or would you rather just hate on it's cluster?

I would much rather have it than a non M E36.

The point of this thread for the OP is to bash Lexus, good job. It's a good car and the IS 350 will RAPE.

To call it a joke is ignorant, please stop sounding like a fanboy . It performs better than any preceding Lexus, it's a good platfrom to improve on in the future.

It's cheaper than the M3 and will be a more reliable used car.

For Rakshas; Anemic 4 banger? thats original...like your japanese-made or japanese-inspred tail lights you put on your german car, but then again you would argue they belong there. right?
I own and drive two BMW cars; The first is my first love/car 1995 318i and the second is my lease car/daily driver 2006 530xi. So choose your words wisely before you pull up next to me at a red light and find me behind an engine that is biggers than yours.

As for my opinions on Lexus' Odometer style..that is all it is! My opinion.
I don't hate Lexus cars. In fact, I began the thread with an initial praise for the IS as an actual attempt at making a "driver's car" by the Lexus folks. Anyone who sells or makes Lexus will tell you they started in the auto business to sell "luxury inspired interiors and comfy seats" to old folks and soccer moms and not to make "driving machines" like BMW.

Like a true enthuiast I'm on the BMW "driving-first" side of the fence when it comes to the divide over Lexus, Mercs, and other luxury-first brands.

For the guy with a Lexus in his sig...LMAO! wrong forum buddy. The leather seat and chrome trim enthusiasts are elsewhere getting their eyebrows and nails done or picking their kids up from soccer practice.

Yes. I will probably NEVER own a Lexus. But I will definaly look at one and scrutinize it or praise it for what its worth and this IS with its eccentric odometer will get the straight dope from me.

I like the fire in here and started the thread to get opinions brewing on those wacky odos...so keep them coming.

And keep it real!

you make that sound like a good thing. I was at the supermarket today and saw these generic cookies...yes they were cheaper than chips ahoy, even though they looked similar and talked the big talk. but I'm sure if I bought them and took them home I know they would taste like shit. So I spent a few dollars more for chips ahoy and I'm more happier for it.

Actually I'm having them with a glass of milk and me and my gfriend are looking at your Lexus sig and wondering what the hell you are doing in this forum.

I had an E36 for years, I've paid my dues.

Are you trying to make me cry? Ouch, you hurt my feelings. :shifty

I don't think the IS is so much "driving" oriented as it is a more entry level Lexus aimed at a younger market than their traditional vehicles. Besides, it's not like 95% of people who buy "driving" oriented cars could care less about what the car is meant for.

Agreed. Though I don't approve of the fake side vents and quad exhaust tips, I must say that it's quite an impressive car coming from Lexus. It's definately something they can use to improve with. Not as good as the E92 M3, but considering it's their first real high-performance saloon, not bad.

The price isn't that bad either...and being a Japanese car you know it'll be reliable.

OK I was exaggerating when I said joke but its not better than any of its competition. None. I don't care how well it performs over any preceding Lexus obviously its going to perform way better they shoved a 417 hp engine into it. Still isn't better than the competition.

And no its not cheaper than the M3 (sedan for sedan) at base, but its going to be reliable. If everyone gave a shit about reliability so much we'd all be driving Honda's and Lexus' and there would be no M3 not now not ever and subsequently no IS-F.

Rakshas: It amazes me how someone on a BMW forum can throw shots at a BMW owner for driving a BMW; kinda makes me wonder what the M owners think of non-M cars.....I do agree that hating a marque because someone is just a fanboy doen't make any sense; I don't think that is something a true enthusiast does.......

We have meetings where we beat non-M owners and bury their bodies in the desert. Then we burn replica M3/M5 parts. The M6 owners are kinda weird so they have their own circle jerk.

I, I, I love you....

I put up with dick snots like Rakshas for 3 years whiles driving my 318i. But being the man that I am. I ignored the 325 and 328 E36 haters and kept doing my thing. Kept my paper long, my mods fresh and my car clean. I've done things to my 318i and created mod ideas that no one else have thought of; like auto rear shades, power fold mirrors (press a button inside and your mirrors fold it when you park), security camera (someone breaks into you car and your alarm not only goes off but a tiny webcam records 3 minutes of the action and transmit the video file to a secure server).

That said, now that I drive a 530xi I still drive my 318i not because I need 6 pistons under the hood to assert my manhood, but because I take pride in something I paid for with my own money and worked on with my own sweat and blood. Whether my first car was an M3 or 318i...the fact is I bought it with my own paper and I own it from the sunroof to the rims. Not many people who drive BMWs can tell you that!

Then again kids like Rakshas have been depending on mommy and daddy to buy them everything since birth so they never appreciate the true value of what they have or think they have. So they will always be greedy for more and always be jerks to those who have less! :evil2

bam!

The IS-F is a nice car. No it isnt as nice as the new M, but it is just as fast and very fun to drive. As for the price the IS is far cheaper than the M, the dealership i work at just got a 80k version of the M and the IS is alot less than that. I respect what lexus is trying to do, i mean are they there yet, no but its a start. Lexus is a very nice car though for comfort and reliablity. Having that said i will never give up my BMW. Oh and i like the older IS btw
