Hmm...anyone else have this problem yet? My gas tank door refuses to close all of a sudden. I push it in but it springs back out. So, I held it in place and clicked the lock button on the remote and that held it in place. Works fine until you unlock your car at which point it pops out again.
Here are two other posts where people had a similar problem.

Anyone else? I think I'll take it in for service in a few days...closest dealer is 45 mins away...bleagh.

I'm having the same problem. The gas door won't stay closed (spring issue), and also the locking mechanism does not work.
Best I can tell the lock is a rod that actuates (through a rubber grommet) controlled by the central locking system, and it seems to be stuck in it's passageway or not getting power. The spring mechanism should be easy enough to fix assuming there's a replacement part for that.
My car is screaming "siphon from me".

I have no idea if this works - but will the gas cover lock if only the passenger door is locked?? If so...for now, just lock the passenger and set your preferences such that only the drivers' side door opens with the key fob. Just a random spillage of thoughts. Sucks.

When it happens to me, it is because the car is locked. I lock the car to go inside and pay for gas, buy a coke, whatever. I come back out and forget the car is locked and the gas door wont open.
Sometimes I brush the handle and the car locks while I'm fueling. don't ask how I pull that stunt, but I do. I'm still trying to figure it out. But the car needs to be unlocked to close the gas door as well.
I've noticed it while washing the car as well. I never use the brush, only the pressure nozzle. People are dumb with the brush, found gravel in the before. I notice the water pressure is enough to lock doors and occasionally open the fuel door. Sometimes you can sequence it just right and sit there with a dumb OCD look on your face, ha ha.

Yea I have a similr problem but on my '93 320i I guess I will check in auto parts if they have the metallic spring that goes in in hinges. Mine is probbaly bent out of shape and being a bity rusty doesnt help either.:D

Kengsx seems your hing spring hasnt worked for some time and everytime the central locking system tries to lock the gas door the actuator was bumping on the edge of the door till it burned out maybe? I been locking my car from passeneger side while holding the gas door closed not to burn out the gas door actuator.

They fixed the door under warranty. Broke again. Took it back and they replaced it again. Today...it broke again...daammmit! Why does this keep happening? I hope this doesn't mean this will be happening for the rest of this car's life.

Sorry to hear. Only had a couple of problems that were similar to earlier posts regarding locking. I do not have CA, but found I had to hit the dash unlock all doors key to open the fuel door. Also found that you had to be careful in the amount of pressure to close the fuel door. Too much pressure and the thing pops back open and like at next refuel, didn't I close?
