View Full Version : Is my car cursed????

My car has been in the body shop three times since last July, all for things that haven't been my fault. First, last July, when it was in the dealership for service, they gouged one of my wheels and parked it too close to another car and scratched the bumper (they paid to have everything fixed). In January of this year, someone keyed the front fender. And then, to top it off, a few weeks ago, a relative at a family gathering backed into the rear of my car, damaging the bumper and the driver's side quarter panel. Luckily, I have a good body shop and everything has been fixed properly and looks like it never happened.

My question for all of you...is my car cursed???? What do I do to make sure this type of stuff stops happening to my baby???

Park the car further away from other cars--make others work to hit your car.

Keying: surveillance camera.

I find that some cars are just cursed. My last car got rear-ended whie I still had dealer plates on it. The next day, a mattress fleww off a truck and hit the front. Then my garage jumped out and put a scrape on my side rear bumper. Then my friend held the "unlock" key thinking it would unlock the truck, didn't see the windows roll down, let in about 5 gallons of rain. Then, the transmission started rattling. Yeah...some cars are just cursed.

Wow, that sucks! I thought my car had it bad. Maybe there is some kind of ritual I need to perform on it to exorcise the demons that must be living in it! Although, maybe those demons are what make it so damn fast and fun to drive!!! :lol

I always park in the corner spot as far away from other cars as possible to help prevent people from inadvertently damaging it, but sometimes there is just nothing you can do. I wish someone would invent an invisible force field that could protect cars, then I would have no worries!!!

+1 for the shield, esp. if it can disintegrate bird shit as soon as it comes in close range. If not for PETA, I'd think of mounting an air defense system on my car too to take down any birds in the neighborhood. I too park far away from cars, but birds have a thing for shitting on my car.

I also like the idea of a 360 degree surveillance system to capture images of keyers and hit and runners while the car is parked. I think the South Africna Flame Thrower Mod is a last resort, but may need to be considered.

OP -- your car is not cursed. If you do all you can to please the car gods, and accidents still befall you, you need to do what I do. Realize that this is just a series of unfortunate events, and it is in these dark days that you experience life the most. Without out sadness, there is no happiness.

I was cruising at legal freeway speeds not being above the law and a pick-up truck in front of me lost the cover to a cooler. I was not following too closely ensuring I wasn't breaking the law and the lid hit the driver's side headlight cover and bumper. It was in slow motion. For the next few miles of driving the speed limit the images of what the front of my car looked like passed before me. I parked legally in a parking space and inspected my car. Luckily no damage, just a minor impression to the soft bumper and some plastic transfer. I was able to rub the plastic off with a cloth.

On my previous car (miss that e36), I was driving on the highway (don't remember what speed, but I doubt it was the speed limit, as that is just a mere friendly suggestion by the province IMO and most on the Canadian roads agree), and all of a sudden a coat hanger (those wooden ones) went flying out of the truck a few car lengths in front of me but in the next lane over and went smashing into my bumper. I knew away damage was done and noticed that my lighting was not even. Sure enough when I get to my destination I check to see that my left fog light was smashed and the glass was shattered to pieces. Needless to say I was pissed, but that was an isolated incident (the car one not me being pissed). I don't think my car or I are cursed, but I am not the luckiest person around either.

Part of driving in NYC with a new car is the paranoia about getting things scratched. Almost seems like there a hordes who are looking for new and pristine cars to bang into and ding up. After the first, few, there is almost a sense of relief that now you (your vehicle looks like the rest and actually fits in. People seem to stay away more. Must be a integration thing!!!!!!

You know...I'm gonna suggest this as a mythbusters test on...um...Mythbusters.

The myth: that @#Q!@#$%%!@ birds deliberately find shiny new cars to take a crap on. The smelly little bastards.

<be right back, I'm actually gonna do it>

good point, I'll try to remember that, plus it could be much worse! Also, most people say bad things come in threes right, so hopefully I am in the clear for awhile!

+1

Same thing happened when I was driving on I-80 in my E39. luckily all I needed was fine sand paper + paint to touch up the scuff/scratches. The fog light had to be replaced though :mad

Like when growing up and your friend's parents have the "forbidden room" with the plastic couch covers and perfect vacuum lines in the carpet.:confused

I'll try to make the OP feel better. I've had my car for a little over a year now and here's my story...

- Ordered car on Thanksgiving weekend of 2006
- Car arrived mid-March 2007 (yes that was a 4 month wait)
- 2 weeks into owning it a phantom rock hits my windshield and puts a nice dime size chip and crack in it
- end of May 2007 we have a freak hail storm while its 80 and sunny outside (11 dents found to date)
- 2 weeks after that, some rednecks find it funny to park a giant tired truck next to my car parked at the end of a parking lot, after they leave, I go to find a gouge/dent of about 2 inches long and down to the steel just behind my passenger door
- within the next month someone backs into my front bumper and drives off not leaving a note
- 1 week after that I almost get run off the road and at 70 mph I make a crazy ass move to save my car from being totaled by a guy who's cutting me off and my front rim gets some serious curb rash
- and just a few months ago I went in a store only to come out and find a 2 ft. lont vertical dent in my passenger door from someone who slammed their F250 door into mine and drove off without leaving a note yet again

Moral of the story, don't feel so bad. It could be worse.

Also to help the OP -- My sad story

1. Placed deposit, ordered car early October 2006
2. Delivery Nov 15
3. November 24, 2006 Hit and run in parking lot -- Left Rear damaged for $1600
4. March 07 Keyed in parking lot, 18 inch long, thumbnail deep scratch, Driver's side front fender -- Porter, Griot's 4,3,2,1 - barely visible but still annoying as hell.
5. I now have 18,000 Miles - I need 1800 dollars worth of new tires, go figure
6. May 7, 2008 First ever time with this car to car wash - Passenger side rear bumper gouged and dented -- wash refused to accept responsibility -- $ 375 to me.
7. May 21, 2008 -- there is light at the end of the tunnel of body work --
