thanks for posting the pictures. I have been meaning to drive up with the shift knob, shifter boot and surround for Owen.

Great to see the underside of my car is as clean/rustwise as I assumed it would be.

Looks like the swap is going along pretty well. I think they are planning on getting a large bulk of it done tomorrow. Owen has been sick since last Wednesday and his guy Chris called in today. Luckily the only big projects they have is yours and mine.

But the underside of you car IS really clean. They have been able to reuse most of the bolts and such doing the swap (mounting type stuff), which is RARE for many cars that age.

I have been traveling on business the last few weeks and I head back out again next week. I told Owen "no rush" and asked him to put a few miles on the car working out any bugs. He is going to install the B&B tri-flo (fingers crossed it will not be too loud) and the TMS chip I dropped off with the trans swap parts. It should be a whole new driving experience when I pick her up.

Please remind him not to worry about how much time it takes and I hope he is feeling better.

Your search definitely paid off. That thing is ridiculously clean. The B&B is pretty loud. Not quite UUC/Corsa Loud but close. It will most certainly not sound stock - nice, not insanely loud, but definitely different.

Doesn't matter how many times I tell him not to rush. He does anyways. I told him a week ago to push mine out and not bother with it until your car was done (and he was caught up with everything else in the shop). Instead he continues to work on mine AND start yours.

It's funny though considering him being sick is what has caused mine to get done. Last Thursday he went in to work and shouldn't have been there so he did the "If I'm going to be here sick I'm going to do something 'fun'" mentality. He decided to use it as an excuse the get my Touring running.

So much for taking it easy!

I'll be sure to let him know that you are traveling next week and not to rush, but I assure you that it won't make a bit of a difference it will be done sooner rather than later.

Do you think the B&B will sound droney (sp?) I do not mind a throaty sound but that droney sound will drive me nuts. I am going on the assumption at highway cruising speeds the sound will level and quiet down a bit. I have no problem with throaty sounds on accelerating.

I've never heard one on a highway so I can't answer the "droney" question. It is definitely "throaty" however.

I know that Andy at Bav Auto had one on his E30 and just took it off after several years because he was sick of it.

I had a UUC TSE3 on my E46 (the bolt on EVERYONE wants) and then the UUC RSC36 with shorty headers on my E36 (similar to the TSE3) and they were both REALLY throaty and minimal drone on the highway.

I did get pulled over in MA for the E36 being too loud (I got off the ticket because I'm from NH). The E36 was too loud in my (and my gf's) opinion. It sounded like a race car.

The E46 (which I think the B+B will be similar to) sounded "just right" albeit a tad amount of drone was present - but still sounded nice on the highway and I got used to it.

Long story short with my M50 upgrade on the Touring I was thinking of the UUC exhaust again but have since passed on it to get an Ansa exhaust. It is just barely a step up from Stock but has a little throat to it. It still allows the car to SOUND like an E30 and not something obscene.

If you are looking to add a little throaty sound the B+B is not the exhaust for you. If you want your E34 to sound Nasty then it is.

Assumption: The E34 B+B sounds the Same as an E30 B+B

Rick is responsible for my car looking as clean as it does. BELIEVE me while it was rust free when I bought it. It was NOT clean. Rick took care of that for me.

I can not recommend Rick's Detailing skills highly enough

E36M3 B&B with resonator track pipe and headers is civil at idle (but nowhere near stock) and really really throaty on hard acceleration. Cruise is acceptable but definitely not quiet. I would not say there is any drone, but can imagine that there could be on an automatic trans car. I have driven on mine for probably 18 months, originally daily but not as often now. It is louder than I need, though I do like the sound. I would prefer to be a little more low key, but the young guys love it.

I decided not to have Owen install the B&B. I am going to have him re-install the stock exhaust and just install the TMS chip.

If you are looking for something sportier I have two suggestions:

1. For full stainless I suggest Scorpion or Remus. Cheaper, not as loud as B+B.
2. I think you are looking for the same sound I like on my E30s so therefore you want Ansa. Ansa is not Stainless however so you want Ansa + Black Rust Encapsulator from eastwood.com. For an E30 the exhaust, center pipe, mounting hardware and one can of the spray is $400 total. $365 for all the exhaust parts.

Don't really think you can go wrong with that. Gives that little extra something too.
