I have the dreaded SRS light. This is a brand new occurence.
I used the Peake SRS tool and came up with 11 - Supply Voltage, 47 - Control unit fault, signal track M1, 48- Control unit fault, signal track M2.
Am I headed to the dealer for a $600+ fix?
Or do one of you ever-so-helpful BMW techies have a another way to resolve or diagnose this further?
BTW- thanks very much for the seat adjustment fixes (twisting). The instructions for clipping the cable sheath worked great and looks professional. I heated/removed, trimmed, reheated, re-attached, and I now have fully functional driver and passenger seats!!
Now, hopefully I can fix the SRS issue, with out the stealer involved!

unplug the control unit permanently and say bye bye to the airbag???
that'll clear it up. :)
clearing faults is dealer only.

OK, you just fixed the seat twist and now you have an SRS light - Hmm - did you turn on the ignition with the seat disconnected? Did you try a reset? Unlike outher BMW fault codes that typically reset after two correct readings - SRS stays on forvever until reset. If the Peake doesn't do a reset on your model - go to the Software site on this forum and see if someone near you has CARSOFT.

I have the reset with the Peake tool. SRS stays on.
When the seats were disconnected, the ignition was not turned on.
Could this be a battery issue?

My '89 535i had broken leads on the two crash sensors (orange) on the inner front fenders (under the hood) - repairing these leads fixed my problem. On my '89, the SRS computer sits up under the dash near the steering wheel. There is a modular plug that has the leads on it - I'd test the power lead to see if the message is correct and the control unit is down and has no power - you can check the other leads at the same time.

the SRS light is on in my 540 and the local indy said it was some control unit that needed replacing, gave me a business card to a bmw scrap yard in NH...
shouldn't be a big deal, but worth pursuing on your own without consulting the dealership.

My srs light stays on for about 2 minutes and then goes off. Should go off in a few seconds. My indy says the air bags will still work if the light soes off. Any opinions on this?

When mine was bad it flashed for a cuple of minutes and then went solid red - did your indy read codes? I would check codes before I assummed that the airbag would work in a crash.

not yet, plan to take it in in a week or so. per previous jobs, he thought it was a seat belt sensor.

If you have passenger airbags, there is also a pressure sensor in the pass. seat that can fail. I probably have one or two from e39's (and maybe e34s?) - where are you in KY?

Mine has the passenger airbag. I live in Lexington, Ky. Might be a good idea to replace the pressure sensor and see what happens. if cheap enough. :) How much do you want for an e34 sensor, if you have one? My car is a 95 525i build date 1/95.
