I picked up a '06 330i yesterday with 45,000 miles. The 330i looks and runs great! All service indicators look fine. Oil level is good. My only concern is that in the oil service indicator dispays "-7000". Does this mean that the cars is 7,000 miles past the oil change interval? If yes, does this affect the warranty? I have a service appointment at the dealer next week. Any input is appreciated.

So far (200 miles) I like the car! I think it is a great leap forward from my old e46.

It could be a fault with the CBS software displaying erronous data or it could be the previous owner skipped the oil change or did it without resetting the CBS data. I assume you got it from a 3rd party dealer or a private sale not a BMW dealer. I don't think it will void any warranty (I could be wrong here though), but it is not good if the oil was not changed.

Thank you for the input Matt. Hopefully there will be no issues with the warranty.
I love the car. I can't wait to get in on the track.

if it says 7,000 then you have approx. 7,000 until your next service.

if it says -7,000 then you are past due.

An update to the story.

I had my car serviced at my local dealer in NJ yesterday. According to BMWNA records, the car had the last service performed by a dealer in Richmond, VA at 39,000. They did everything that was needed, including replacing the brake fluid and a couple of recall items, except for the oil change. The service advisor was totally perplexed. The last oil change was 21,000 miles ago! In any case, the car checked out okay. Hopefully nothing bad happens as a result down the road.

By the way, they gave me a 335ix as a day loaner. Awesone ride!

Possible the previous owner either did the oil change himself or took it to somewhere like Jiffy Lube and the indicator was never reset. That would be better than the alternative of 21k on oil!

It's Also Possible The Dealer Didn't Reset It. It's Rare, But Does Happen.
