I am in the market of looking for a 2005/2006 325i. To my surprise, 50% of the 325i I tested drive had battery failure, either they needed to be jump started, or they ended up to replace the battery. I was told that was because the car hadn’t been driven for a while. I had my old Toyota sit at my garage for over two months and not having any issue of battery failure. Why BMW has this battery issue, should I worry?

As I am new to BMW, your feedback is really is really appreciated.

These newer cars draw a lot of current even when shut off because of all the electronics. I am surprised that the dealers you visited didn't follow well known instructions regarding storing cars that are not driven on a constant basis (e.g. trickle charger connected to battery). I'd be more scared of the dealers than the car itself.

My advice? . Consider other options first before buying one.
I bought a 2006 325i late last year and within months the battery died. The dealership ( or should I say stealership) quoted $400 to replace it - I told them where to go! I was told that it was because the car hadn't been driven enough .
In comparison , I had my $10K Jeep parked for over 7 months and it started and ran perfectly after that.
Should you worry ? Yes , because this is a common problem with 325i and BMW willnot replace the battery and unless you are
1. willing to pay $400 for a replacement
2. prepared to waste your time / take time off work to deal with endless phonecalls and trips to the dealership
What's more if you decide to put in a non BMW battery they will tell you it will affect your warranty.
I would think twice before buying a BMW . They are good cars but for the price you pay one would expect more!!!

I guess you missed the part about these new cars withdrawing a lot of current to keep all the electronics alive. It is the nature of the beast with most new cars, but in any case, any dealership worth it's name should either trickle charge their stored cars or should replace the battery before selling, but it seems you guys ended up going to some shady businesses.
