So I changed the rubber gasket seal things under my door handles a while ago, and ever since then the handles haven't shut right. They like to stick up, and it looks like the handle is hitting the cover. Does that make sense? I can take pics tomorrow if it needs clarification.

Anyway, I think they rub and catch because I can't get the slide lock back to the original position. It's in the door really good, and I can't get anything small and sturdy enough to grab on to it and pull. What have others used? Thanks for the help!

I found a thick strip of metal (wide enough to fit in there), bent one side to act as a handle (so that it's easy to pull), and the other side I bent in the shape of a small hook. I can take a pic tomorrow if I can find where I put my creation.

Sounds like a good idea, but if I can bend it by hand I don't think it will be strong enough to not bend back when I pull. It takes a lot of force for some reason. Am I doing something wrong? Then new gaskets seem much thicker than the old. I got a cotter pin puller today (screwdriver looking thing with a twisty end) but it's too big so it doesn't fit in there well. Better than anything else I've tried, though.

If you go to your local tool store and go to the screwdriver area you'll find all manner of tools which you'll be able to use to pull the slider.

No, not really, thus me asking for help. I have a decent complement of tools, and nothing is small but strong enough to get in there. However, I'm concerned I may have a different problem, namely the replacement gaskets being too thick.

I used a pair of surgical forcept to pulled the little doohickey.

Look at the new gasket are they both the same or are they asymectrical? They should be asymectrical meaning their is a right side gasket and a left side gasket.

Who ever said anything about bending by hand? Put it in a bench vise and bend it with a hammer if you have to. I'm talking a thick strip of metal ... like 3-4mm thick at least.

Ok, sorry, I misunderstood.

And they are asymmetrical, but installed correctly. I'll keep trying. Thanks.

I get the feeling you probably don't know what the word "threadjack" means. Start your own thread asking these questons.

Nor the words "search feature." I don't mind threadjacks if they're related, but this is ridiculous!

I used a metal paint can opener - the hook worked great and it's nice and strong.
