Rook,
Let's see a Parts List and a final install pic.
It's raining all weekend here on the East Coast, so maybe I'll make a quick trip to Lowe's for some goodies!

Yeah it is raining here as well so I might as well do this as well. Part numbers please?

rook....theres an easier way....just weld the metal washer to the top of the bolt...the clutch pedal is plastic, so there wont be any noise

I dont have a welder, and just hitting metal it still makes noise, so I like it hitting rubber, plus its easier than having someone weld it.
I got one M10 x 1.5" bolt, two M10 nuts, one 1.5" M10 washer, and three rubber discs, not sure on the exact size. It cost me about $5 bucks, give or take a few pennies, not sure on exact part numbers but I can try to go get them if you guys want.
ya theres also a dude in the bst section selling clutch kits for 5$ shipped to your door... so ya might wanna try that as well

I did this a few weeks ago using the instructions on a webpage I found. The parts cost about $2.50 at Lowe's and I had 4 extra nuts and washers left over when I was done. The key is getting a special bolt called an elevator bolt which has a metal disc at the end already, which you simply slip your BMW-supplied stop over.
Works great, no noise, and a damped feel when it hits
However, the car won't start without the pedal depressed a certain amount, so unfortunately the throw is only reduced by about 4 inches on my car. There is still a space of about 2-3" where the clutch doesn't engage, but it still enhances the shifting feel.

Thanks guys!
Maybe I'll take a trip to Lowe's instead of doing homework on Sunday.

Could someone please post a link to the parts needed, or the already preassembled kit? thanks!

This site details the instructions, its simple but effective. The 2" long bolt was slightly too long for my car though - it worked well for the clutch but the car wouldn't start. I chopped 1/4" off the bolt which allowed the car to start.

yup thats the one i got

That one's nicer than mine. and I felt so clever making it :-(
Hehe, oh well, I did it, and I really put it to good use this weekend, I'm very happy :-)
Mine might be uglier, but I only had to glue a rubber bushing on top ot the stock stop...

What's the advantage of a clutch stop? I'm doing the auto to manual swap this month and I may need one, or did the Z series cars come without clutch stops?
Thanks guys.

Z cars came with a clutch stop, but the clutch still has way too much travel. Hence the home made clutch stop.

it doesn't sound like anyone else had a stock 1 piece hard plastic stop to begin with. but if you did, the $2.95 stop won't work. it's either make your own, or call ron stygar.
check out my clutch stop for sale! its only $8 shipped to you. no gluing or anything needed, just screw it in and go! works just as well as the UUC one.

Just did the Lowes clutch stop tonite but unfortuantely the rubber on the stock stop is not a cap, it is glued on. Used a flat, very sharp knife and cut it off and used Gorilla Glue to stick it on the elevator bolt. If you are going to do this, take a piece of sand paper to the top of the clutch bolt so the glue will stick to the bolt and not the paint. Amazing how much shorter the throw is now.
as stated before, stjobs has one for $5 shipped... but thank you. Also anyone know how to get it from thinking the clutch is engaged? When the car is warmed up the clutch is longer it seems and its hard to get it to start (Cause it wont start with the "clutch in"). I am working on getting it down, but am having problems shortening the clutch stop bolt.Originally posted by ///TeknoVylet

This is the clutch stop I purchased. I got it 1 business day after ordering, and the thing is awesome. It took me less than a minute to install, and when screwed all the way in and washer secured, it is in the absolute perfect location!Originally posted by ///TeknoVylet

There was one thing that I really missed about my S2000 that the M coupe had yet to provide. When I was driving the S2000, I could shift much quicker and smoother...this mod just made up the difference. For a measley $8, I can now fly faster, and my shifts are smoother and quicker.
Mark my words. A good clutch stop has got to be one of the best bang for the buck mods. Ever.
: Bravo ///TeknoVylet for putting together a perfect kit!

couldnt the clutch stops potentially be bad for r clutch after awhile?
