see my website for detailed directions on how I lit up my gills for a great nighttime effect.

Creative, but not my cup of cup.
Although this mod most likely would not work for my car because I have the M which has different grills. But I want to say thank you for sharing this information. This is what the board is all about, whether you like the mod or not, sharing the knowledge is what counts.
Well said.Originally Posted by segue007

Pretty slick. I think I'll do it. I was thinking about a different color perhaps, but we shall see.
I have oil in my blood; that is my dedication level to cars.
Is your car cosmos black? I would think red strips would look awesome on your black Z3, or maybe orange, yellow, or white.Originally Posted by IanBMW

Great writeup, but the pictures over lap the instructions. Perhaps you could fix the problem.

I just checked the website and I don't see any overlapping. What browser do you use? I'm using Internet Explorer 6.0. Perhaps that's why you're seeing it differently than I am.Originally Posted by Juker008

Surprizingly, I don't hate it!Hot Pink would be better though.

I'm guessing that's the problem. If you have any interest, I can email you the instructions as a Word Document. Just let me know.Originally Posted by Juker008
Dont think that would do him much good. I wonder if he even has power down there!
White is Right, Steel Grey is OK, but Estoril is the only color that truly matters.
I like Coupes.
If you are interested in this mod I would suggest doing it soon because the entire MutantMod product line has been discontinued.
The only place I could find to buy them (the EL Tape) was on ebay.
just fyi
Several people have mentioned problems with their browser displaying the webpage incorrectly, such as photos covering part of the text. I have created a second page to address that issue. It includes the text only, with no photos.

I've been PMed several times about the lack of availability of the EL Tape. I was still able to find some by using PriceGrabber and doing a search for "EL Tape".

I'm going to use LEDs like Ron's mod but am wondering about colors. Anyone know what colors are legal in most states for side looking running lights? I was leaning toward a blue or amber.

I would guess amber would be legal. There's also the issue of brightness. The color could be legal, but the brightness must be legal as well
update: cold temperatures and rainy weather have had no ill effects on the strips.
very nice. Doubt I would do it to my M, but very nice indeed.

the M gills are an entirely different animal. My directions wouldn't apply to them, but if I recall correctly, randy forbes installed some LEDs to his M gills.
I did my gills in red but they lightup more like pinkish red. Drivers side shorted out half of the tape last weekend I believe due to water splashing from another car driving in the ruts. Need to fix.
I do like the look.
Great write up and very unique!
