Aahh, what a beautiful day yesterday. I finally got to put the top down for the first time this year.
I finished my day by treating my seats with Mother's leather care products, and fixed a couple of things (custom cupholder, cell phone holder) that were not holding up anymore. I also put the summer tires on my gf's Accent.
But before all that, I started my day by changing the oil, and decided to teach my 8 y.o. stepdaughter how it was done. Man, we had a blast!
:
Here's a nifty write up, with pics...
1- Jack up the car to remove the pass. side front wheel, for a better access to the drain plug; always use jack stands :
2- Remove the oil filter «holder» (plastic thingy) :
3- Remove drain plug and let the old oil drip in whatever container you choose to use that will allow you to recuperate and recycle the oil.
4- As the oil is dripping, install the new filter element on the plastic thingy mentioned above; note the used oil container and the jackstand :
5- You can now put back the drain plug in place with the crush washer provided by the stealer and reinstall the wheel; note how she's duly using a torque wrench set at 74 lbs... Also, you can see the used oil container and the new Modil 1 5w30 in the background :
6- Pour in 6.5 liters of fresh oil with a big smile :
7- You can now reset your service lights by grounding a high quality, 1972 table lamp-sourced brown wire to engine ground on one end...
8- ... and the # 7 pin at the other...
9- Turn on the key to position 2 for around 10 seconds...
10- Voilà! You got 5 service lights and a happy kid!
11- Take the kid to your local oil recuperating place so she/he knows that you don't throw this stuff in the environment.

Wow, child labor is still allowed in Canada?
Why is your g/f not changing the oil?
Nice write-up!
give a hungry man a fish and something happens...teach him how to fish and I don't know what but something better happens
...similarly, change oil for a kid and the kid never appreciates the joy of cars, teach a kid to change oil and you have a kid that knows how to change oil
she'll remember this day for the rest of her life. and she can brag about this in school

I just noticed that your side shark gills go up with the hood....hmmm...I need to look at my hood again but I think in my car the gills are attached to the front quarter panel

Hugo you need to include the fine print next time:
"no 8 year olds were harmed during the oil change procedure"
