UCC bolt through racing trans mounts

Hello all, Kinda new at posting here, been lurking for a while. Great site that has provided me with a lot of helpfull info.
I have a question though, I just changed my M Roadster trans mounts to the UCC bolt through racing mounts in preperation for the upcoming auto cross season. This will be my first year as I have always road raced motorcycles but at my age crashing really hurts now so time to race cars. I am starting on the upgrades, and going to Skip Barbers school in March! Can't wait! Enough of my rambling, my question is for anyone using the UCC bolt thru racing trans mounts. I know they are supposed to transfer a lot more noise into the car, but damn! It sounds like i'm ridding a Harley! Is that normal, or did I just uncover another issue? Also any suggestions on tires to use for autocross? I will be driving the car to the events as it won't fit in my motorcycle trailer! Thanks in advance.

Make a new thread for the tire question please (or amend the thread title).

As for the UCC mounts and increased vibration, my instinct is telling me that is normal, but I've never dealt with them. I'll let others chime in.

    What was your tightening procedure?

The tightening torque makes a big difference, as jajou said.
Make sure you torque them EXACTLY as it says in the instructions.

But yes, they are going to be significantly louder than stock. I remember the first time I installed stiffer transmission mounts, I was a bit shocked at the sound. You get used to it quickly.

Um...Instructions? The did not come with any, and I was unable to find any on thier web site. I ordered a shifter from them and it came with no instructions either, but those were on the site. So Can I ask a favor? Can Gofast, or jajou pass on the prceedure, and torque spec? Since I didn't have the instructions, I measured the stock spacing from the trans ears to the cross member and tightened the new ones till I got the same measurment. I am thinking I have them way too tight because they did "ballon" slightly. Thanks

What I recall seeing here is pretty light torque 8-10 ft-lbs since it a nylok nut, so all the vibration will lessen if you remove the "squish", but not go away. I would call UUC, they will give you something even if not published.

With the bolt through mounts you should tighten them to about 7ft/lbs which seems like nothing, but that's why they have lock nuts.

I installed mine at the same time I did my clutch, and I thought my flywheel was out of balance. A little too much NVH for street use IMO.

Well when you torque them down (I can check torque value at home) you have to make sure the transmission is NOT supported by a jack and only being supported by the crossmember.

So basically once you got the new mounts in, drop the trans let it sit on the crossmember. Torque the 2 nuts. I really don't remember the vibration differences in mine but do remember you went with stiffer bushings.

Thanks guys. I will loosen and re-torque when I get home tonight. I did have the trans resting on the bushings when I tightened them. I called UCC before I noticed all the responses and you are correct 7 to 8 ft/lbs, so I have them way too tight. Thanks again for all your input.

When I installed these things in my S52 coupe with the enforcer caps, I tightened them way too tight compared to what people are recommending. I'd also put it out there for noobs that these are probably one of the lowest priority mods you could buy and do next to nothing for you unless you've got stock mounts that are falling apart or failed. I wouldn't put these in my S54 coupe. Thing is loud enough and vibrates enough as it is. Don't need any more cabin noise and I might do one autocross/driving event a year. That doesn't warrant the need for urethane trans mounts.

I do hope anyone using this part understands that unless you are driving in a high G manner all you get from these parts is the vibration. Its simply an item you use when you go for third gear and the trans has shifted on its mounts so far the gears are not where they are supposed to be.
