Z3 Taillight Help?

    New Profile!

I am in need of new taillights for my Roady. I want to get the newer (00+) Style headlights with the corner taken out. (L-J shaped).

I was mainly wondering if it was just a bolt in idea? Or do i have to have the Butt lift fenders to do so?

    Please tell me I dont!

    Thanks for the help.

(Edit)- I know i have to purchase the new trunk.

If it's for you 1996, and you want the L shaped tail lights that are only on the 2000 and up, then you'll need to replace: Both fenders, bottom rocker panel, trunk lid and the rear bumper. Other than that, at the cost of your upgraded rear tail lights, look to spend about $600 to $800 for the parts, plus paint.

Now, I'm a bit confused, coz you start with "I am in need of new taillights for my Roady" then go into..." I want to get the newer (00+) Style headlights with the corner taken out. (L-J shaped)." You can replace the headlights as long as you can find them, they are plug and play.

I just realized that. Was talking about the taillights. Sorry Bout that. That sucks that I have to get the ugly butt lift fenders. I was planning on geting the (3.2L) Wide fenders. But those are not the butt lift on purpose.

You can get clear rear taillights for a pre face lift cars. I got a eBay set for my old car for like $80 or something. Took a little wire cutting, but a big improvement in my opinion.

Yea I know :/ I was just looking forward to getting those L shaped lights. There beautiful. Is there anyway to grind the non-facelift fenders to make them fit? The lights were going to be my Cars birthday present.

You might be able to fabricate a trunk lid, either from a pre-facelift or from a face lift car. The curve in the taillights seem to be the same, but its really the trunk that seems to be the problem. Here are some pictures for comparison.

    New (Minus the spoiler lip)

The layout of the mounting studs is different:

The area where it mates to the quarter panel *appears* to be the same and may work with the old style fenders... no guarantees though. You could probably get the rest of it to fit with a new trunk lid and some reworking of the sheet metal behind the light.

You don't happen to have the L shaped lights on your car do you? I want to see if someone can measure the high point and the low point of the light HEIGHT. To see if the top of the light fits at least. The bumper and the trunk I have covered, but I cannot bare to put those Ugly F**Kin Facelift Fenders on my car.

I have a facelift Z3 as well as my old pre facelift one that I'm parting out, and I have taillights for both. I'll try and get measurements/pics tomorrow.

It looks likes the car has a muffin top. Like its to fat for the car. I like the slick smooth look.

[edit]- And for some reason the wheel well's look wider without the facelift.

Hm, ok, I'll let you slide on this one. FWIW, the right offset wheels and/or spacers really make a difference. The stock offset on Z3's is ridiculous for the rear, which makes the back look anemic and the wheels sunken in, and it's even worse on the LCI's because of the QP redesign. Just got spacers for my ET41 17" wheels and will be putting them on in the spring.

I dont have spacers because I have 18x10.5 wheels that stick out with my stock fenders. *Only the rears are 10.5.*

I am just really difficult when it comes to my car. A truck ran into my SV mirrior and wripped it off, so i took them both off. So now i drive around with no mirrors because I want M mirrors because the non-m look like mickey ears to me. And I cant put a hard top on my car because I want one custom made to slope down the back of the car like the Spoon Sports hardtop for the S2K because the stock one looks like a tumor to me.

    So i am just weird/difficult

Some will even let you keep the trunk functional I believe.

Then you should appreciate it (Z3) for what it is and use the cash to add that bad boy to your stable.

I have no need for 3 cars though. I have no need for 2 really. I live 1 mile from my work and everything i need is in between.. The roof isnt a big problem. The only thing I care about is the Taillights. Which is what this thread is supposed to be about haha.
