I'm looking for the correct plugs to be used in a 96 1.9/5 135,000 miles.
BOSCH F7 LDC NGK BKR6EQP ??
The car will be used just for driving around town in S. Fl...4,000 miles a year?
I have no idea what plugs are in there or how old they are, I bought this car a few months ago as a project...
In driving it it seems to have plenty of "zip" but it has a very slight miss at idle.
tnx Daniel
ps...If I could figure out how I'd post some pix.....I need explicit instruction on how to do that from pix in my computer...

Most probably use bosch or ngk....this time I'm using denso iridium.
When I bought my Z it also had a rough idle - not bad, but not glassy smooth. At 132k miles, my guess was the plugs were the easy/cheap answer. So I asked around here and although the std plug is as you quote - BRK6EQP - and many people still use them, several said/suggested that one should go away from the quad ground plug (where there is no determinism in terms of which gap will fire from ignition to ignition), and go back to a good old single ground plug. Besides, then one always has the option of tweeking the gap (can't do that with quad ground plugs). So I went the BKR6EGP route - to the grand total of $15 for six plugs. That was 19k miles ago. The idle bacame glassy.. and although I might not get 100k miles out of them, I'm totally happy with them. I did open the gap to .036". And when I did the VANOS at 17k miles on them, I pulled two and they still looked totally sweet. Suspect I'll get 40-50k miles out of this set.
You might use the forum search function and see what others have said over the years.
Just a thought - greg
I use Bosch double ground. It's whatever is stock, I picked mine up from autozone. Changing is a snap. Use anti-seize. As far as pics post them to photobucket then post the image code in your post , viola!

Supercharged
I tried the e3's bc they were on sale this time around....ill go with the ngks next time bc that's what's bmw recommendsand i have missfires and hard cold starts with e3's
NGK BKR6E was rebranded as BMW OE and used on the 97+ cars. They are what I use and I've never had any issues.

This thread was extremely helpful in explaining the different choices of plugs available for our cars and the pros/cons of each.

I'm going to use the NGK BKR6E $2 rather than $9...???
If this car gets driven 5K miles a year, that would be a lot...

Why is this getting added to the manifesto now, and not earlier? *wink* *wink* *nudge* *nudge*![]()

I put in Bosch Iridiums shortly after I bought the cars. No problems yet.
$2 NGK's in my supercharged coupe and NO complaints.
Idle is smooth, pickup nice and I'll gladly change them every year or two to keep an eye on things.
For what its worth.....e3's had rough coldstart idle and hickups/ missfires from 1000-2000 and 5000-6000 revs! Switched back to ngk's the ones with a normal electrode but two ground tips... Eliminated all the issues!
I recently put the $2.50 NGK BKR6E in to my car. It had 4 prong Bosch in there previously.
While the car runs perfect I wonder if it has the same acceleration as it had with the old 4 prong Bosch plugs.
Do you guys think it does and its just my imagination?
You're only going to get a spark to one of the prongs. But the four prong plugs look cool in commercials. More is better, right?
Sorry about my response; I'm bored and waiting for school to get out in a few minutes![]()

"You can't sign away negligence."
Buy the plug that the mfr recommends for your engine. Unseen factors like resistance are more important than number of electrodes.

I just finished installing new plugs on a 99 M Roadster, 105k miles. NGK BKR6EQP, 23.5 nm torque, easy peasey!!! Took me less than an hour and I took my time, really simple job.
I've been so afraid of doing this for fear of the plugs being seized, they all came out so easy.
