    Differential cooling by Vac Motorsports

Has anyone used this cooling device?
A little bit more $ than a Rogue cover, but no drag/grind issues for a lowered car...

I think your best bet is to ask/search the track forum...

Rogue cover is easier than having to worry about a pump going out or hitting something in the street that can rip the line or puncture the fluid cooler.

That is a lot of money for a little bit of diff cooling... Stay with the Rogue cover.

Why are you needing the additional cooling? If you are cooking the fluid, I'd be checking the lockup. Unless you are doing some very serious endurance racing, our 188s rarely need such extreme assistance. The vented cover is plenty.

I was just checking the options. I have an abrupt Up/Down coming into my driveway that caused my M3 to grind unless taken at extreme angle.
If i lower my coupe as much as i'd like i'm sure the RE diff cover would hit.
I'll be doing a diff swap pretty soon and i only want to spend the $$ once.
The cooling kit is only slightly more than the RE cover.
I do about 4-6 track days a year, but you are right. I don't need excessive cooling.

The fins are pretty much in line with the wheels. Driveway angle will not be an issue. If the fins were far back then I would worry. I think you will be fine with finned cover.

That must be one hell of a pump. I bet the lights dim when that thing turns on....

The cover on my car grounds occasionally. Peril of a lowered car. I was thinking of adding a cooler too. That kit is expensive. I would expect to pull the parts together for 1/4 of that price. It would be good to plumb a thermocouple into the diff to see exactly how hot it gets.

The two (2) people I know that did this have polar-opposite driving styles, and neither exceeding 200*F.

Cooling the differential for daily street use, and spirited driving is not an issue. It would be nice to see what the differential fluid temps are on a car doing twenty (20) minute lap sessions though.

For the record, the Rogue cover is manufactured with an additional port to fit a temperature sender, locacted next to the lower right cover mounting bolt (plugged in this cover):

(YES, the axles are swapped left for right intentionally!)

Thanks for the info and opinions folks.
All the help saves big $ down the road.
I did not use the forum with my first BMW and paid the price for it.

I've heard this a great unit for tracking but a bit of a waste for street.
Now in E92 M3 ZCP -- Absolute beast
