YES!!!! My Roadie needs this!
Me too! It would need to bolt into something sturdier then the little studs that hold the heat shielding on though.
To me... would need to be a through floor or through frame rail installation to be effective.

Looks like the real deal, and it would bolt to custom frame rails (included in the kit) and not the control arm itself. Apparently a VERY popular upgrade for the Miata, and so successful that Mazda made a similar OEM piece for the NB chassis.
Maybe Vorshlag, can take up this task if they still have that Z3 LS1 Roadster in their shop..
Yeh - this definitely needs to be a 'through the floor' bolt on installation. From Flyinmiata site... "28 holes need to be drilled for installation."
I would buy that in heartbeat.
Edit - I'm less inclined to be drilling holes through the car, though...
I love the fact that the central section can be adjusted and removed for easy clearance and access to the tunnel.
A buddy of mine has the FM setup on his miata and it seems to work. He found the biggest improvement in the frame rail caps, apparently the cross brace didn't make enough difference to warrant the loss in ground clearance (his car is at stock height fwiw). I've wanted a setup like this for my z since I bought it.
Yes, lets add weight to our cars!
Dane Kane's stuff was a joke.
I e-mailed Matt@Vorshlag, if I get a reply I'll keep y'all posted. Or maybe they'll chime in here.
Maybe MotionMotorsport as well? Definitely needs to be stainless steel though like this one for the Miata.
Except roadsters are lighter than coupes, and this weight is placed as low down on the chassis as possible. As for it's effectiveness, apparently Mazda thought it was effective enough to make it an OEM piece. Speaks volumes for me.
What he said!!!

A full 4' x 8' sheet of 1/4" plate iron will still flex and twist if welded to the bottom of your car. A proper roll cage is a far better idea. Look at a bridge or any race car for that matter.
$399 for the Miata. It'll be $1299 for the M roadster.
drive it like you stole it
You are exactly right... bridges are not made of flat stock, they are made of extruded I-Beams and Angles.
A key part of the design is that it's not completely flat... it's made from bent sheet metal and welded T's... that's where the strength resides. Check out this picture showing the top side: http://www.flyinmiata.com/images/mis...s/IMG_0046.jpg
Now - those spot welds may not hold forever - could have better welding.
Yes - probably right - and at that price - I'll take the flex

Pretty sure I could have these built..... Let me check.
Stainless steel I assume?

I have a friend with the FM brace and it does make a huge difference for torsional rigidity. A lot of these cars are daily driven and something like this makes a whole lot more sense for practicality over a full cage, granted a cage will give you more stiffness. I have the whole roof thing going for me, but I could see this as a pretty good upgrade for roadies at the right price.
