    Coupes...

    Roadster Trunk leak?

So I got some massive water intrusion from washing the car in the trunk.

I had several inches of water in the battery hole.

So I pulled a couple plugs and the water doesn't appear to have returned.

However, the tire iron seems to show some signs of corrosion so this may not be a new occurrence.

How the hell do I get the spare tire connector and stuff out of the trunk on the roadster? I mean to completely remove all the crap so I can see the trunk floor?

Randy? Got some step by step instructions?
White is Right, Steel Grey is OK, but Estoril is the only color that truly matters.

remove the carpet in the trunk
    remove your tools
    remove the plastic tool holder
use the spark plug tool to loosen the nut on the black dome holding the tire
    remove the black dome
push the two spring clips in
the tire will fall from the bottom along with the metal holder
    Watch your FEET! lol

this is how mine was, i'm not sure if your is the same.

I'll make a video if you need.

By the way, I believe mine started leaking where the third brake light is. I'll have to track it down.

+1 This is where mine leaks... there is a large o-ring-like seal that goes around the 3rd brake light.

To completely remove the carrier, you have to remove the steel cable (handle) you use to lower the assembly.

At the base of the cable, you'll see a "hex" you can put a small wrench on to remove the cable from the "stud" or whatever you want to call it.

Is it a permanent thing or can I re-assemble it later?

If you don't break anything taking it apart, you can put it all back just like it was.

    99 M Rdstr, 92 325ic,
I am looking for a thread how to remove the rear carpet and came across this thread. When I took out the spare tire it looked like it was never taken out. The mud was level with the top of the tire. Poor Z3 had to haul around 15lbs of dirt everywhere it went.
And thanks for the tip Randy. It took me a while to figure out how to removed that small little hex. I was a few minutes away from cutting the damn cable. While i saw this post after the fact, i am sure it will help someone.
