Wheres the sensor for oil temp / S54?

Driving along and all of a sudden the oil temp gauge is reading 120 (car was warm and previously sitting under 200) By the time I was home it was back under 200 as normal.

Im guessing it might be a loose ground or something? Just wondering where it is tapped in to so I can look around and make sure everything is OK.

Also how long does the oil level light normally stay on for? I used to never remember seeing it and now it seems like it stays on for a second or two past the normal startup lights. It does not stay on. Oil level is fine.

    Thanks,
    Sam

The oil level sensor and oil temp sensor are one and the same. It's going bad and time to replace. You have to drop the x-brace and drain all your oil to access it as it is on the bottom of the oil pan.

Mine is doing the same, but my oil is new, so i'll change it out next oil change.

    Are you kidding? Great design.

Well I guess it's time to repair my oil pan, do the rod bearings, and throw a new oil pan gasket in the coupe...might as well if you're taking the cross brace off.

Cross brace is 6 bolts and a 2 minute job to remove.
Taking the oil pan down is a lot more time consuming as it requires dropping the subframe.

At least we still have a dip stick so we know the oil isn't low; just a bad sensor. Not so on newer BMWs.
