Removing the top of the sub woofer cover.

I just can not get this. I am afraid of braking something else and these parts are $$$$ if even available.

I need to remove the top to reinforce it. It cracked when I used it as a leverage to get my top up. The crack is small and if stopped it will not be noticeable.

I found a motherload of interior stuff in this DYI but this only brushed upon.

And a pic of the part I need to replace from the DYI.

Has anyone tried converting the dead space under the console lid to any type of storage?

    Thanks

Bump. Come on guys. I need to get that top piece off. If I don't know how I will shatter it or damage it with gouges and stuff.

I assume you are referring to the 'oddments cover'? It is hinged at the rear. I used a four inch plastic drywall knife to pry it open. You can then remove the lid by unscrewing the hinges. There is a variant of the rear console that has an upper and lower storage compartment by deleting the subwoofer. If you have a sub and want to keep it, there is very little leftover space.

To the OP... your top piece does not have a hinge like what is shown in the 2nd posting pictures. Yours is held on by plastic clips, in front and along the back side. Pry up gently on each side along the front edge.... it will come loose. Then move to the rear, and do the same. Your compartment below the lid is for the subwoofer, and not storage.

+1 on post number 4... I took mine off recently while chasing another issue... which turned out to be on help anyway.

The clips are tight. but will release with pressure. I advise working on the pair in front at the same time trying not to induce a twist, just as straight up as you can manage with equal pressure on either side.

Then the rear. When you put it back, maybe a tiny bit of lube on the clips...

Thanks guys! I thought it was clips but I was afraid that it might be screwed from the top or have a lever like when we change out our door handle gaskets.

I tryed last year to lift mine up and it did indeed crack! I left it for now fearing i'll do more damage. I have a '98 without the storage. My sub is way blown. One day i'll just get a replacement and go to town on that damn cover.
