Some people, like myself, have a difficult time fitting into a M Roadster. So to help squeeze out a bit more room, I decided to do this modification:

Just a warning, when I did mine, it wasn't one single foam piece that came out. The entire carpet had foam attached, and the hump was made of styrofoam. So I had to use a razor and cut the foam, then scrape out the styrofoam.
It worked, but got a bit messy. Just letting you know if you attempt this with this tutorial, your car may be different.
good link - thanks

So how much room did you gain?
Actually, about a 1/2 inch to 3/4 of an inch, but the FEEL is major. You can see the difference between the passenger and driver seat when fully back.
It's actually just perfect for me now, I'm 6' 3" and prefer to have the steering wheel at just arms length. Same with the pedals. (Although I do have shorter legs than most people my height).
I would highly recommend doing this. Took about 1.5 hours, mostly because of cleanup and disconnect the seat wires.
It was absolutely stupid for BMW to waste that much space behind there.
However, do be careful about the other plastic parts when fully back. They do creak and squeak when back. Probably wear out soon or crack.
Highly recommended though.
Any tips from people who have done this with a coupe? I am following the directions above, but can't seam to get the carpet out from the top corner. It seems stuck under the plastic piece above it or to the right(closer to the door).

So the electric seat will go so far back on its track that it hits the body, and you can remove some foam padding from under the carpet back there? And the seat will still travel further back. Who would have thought? And even fewer needed?
