I have been looking at all of the DIY threads regarding the deletion of the clutch delay valve on the Z3, specifically this one.
I went out and picked up all of the necessary hardware and gathered all of the tools. When my brother and I went under the car to check for the CDV, we came up empty handed. We were surprised at this because while driving we encounter the symptoms of a car with a CDV. The first to second shift causes bucking along with the other symptoms, including delayed engagement of the clutch.
We have a 2001 Z3 2.5i with the Getrag 5 speed transmission. I have included pictures I recently took below.
From what I have read people say that the 2001 Z3 2.5i definitely has a CDV and not a restrictive clutch line. I find it hard to believe that the previous owner would have deleted it considering how they took care of the car, but it is possible.
Any ideas? Learn to drive better? Flush the whole brake system? Take out the slave and flush it?
We were planning on flushing the whole system anyway if we had taken out the CDV that we thought was there.

We retrofit headlights, code BMWs, rekey locks and thoroughly detail cars. Interested or curious? PM us.
i think the stock rubber line has some swelling/ flex to it not giving accurate clutch response.
i would put the SS line on anyway and see how it goes.

Bump.
Still looking for some insight.

For what its worth...and I realize this thread is ancient...my 2001 Z3 2.5 has the exact same line as yours. I was equaly perplexed when I climbed under mine to do the delay valve delete only to find that there didnt seem to be one...curiouser and curious-er
I have a 2.5, but a '99, have already bought the non-delay replacement... and given how it shifts, have always assumed that it had a CDV... will be embarressing to get under there to find just the hose. It would be interesting to have others chime in in terms of what they have (model, year) and if they found a CDV or not.
So, in general did the 01 2.5's (03/01 build date) have a CDV from the factory

My 2001 2.5 Roady did not have a CDV.
Following up from previous post: embarrassingly, when I looked, no CDV at the slave cylinder found :-( but given the symptoms, either there is something intentionally built into the stock rubber hose btwn the master and slave cylinders, or just a swelling hose - sure feels like a CDV... when life get's out of the way and some time frees up, will simply replace the line down from the master cyl and the slave cylinder and see if the clutch action doesn't improve.
The CDV is nothing but a flow limiting valve in the release direction. It is NOT a delay valve. It's only job is to put a cap on the rate at which the clutch can apply. If your complaint is the tires don't lit up when you sidestep the clutch, the CDV is the culprit. For any other complaints, look elsewhere.

Where I notice the problem is: not being able to modulate the clutch upon release... but I'm going to replace the dated pieces with fresh hardware, and then if there is still a problem, go looking for it... but from what others have posted, suspect there is a 90%+ chance that doing such will resolve the matter.

Not being able to modulate the clutch release is a prime symptom of the CDV, and what drove me to replace my clutch line. The clutch now works perfectly, with a good feel to it.
