RevoZport Carbon Fiber hood finally arrived......!

Well after 3 months from payment/building/shipping the hood has arrived.

Not sure if every one knows, but RevoZport is located in Hong Kong. I figured since there hood seems to be used as the mold for others, I would go to the real deal. Plus their carbon hood was only $910 plus $300 to ship it.

Let me tell you it wasn't EASY! Shipping from Hong Kong was a nightmare!!!

Let's see if I can take you thru the whole story....

1)I had to sit in the bank for about an hour and wire the $1200 to RevoZport. Cost of $45

2)Call the bank and get all kinds of wire transfer numbers, and then fax the numbers to RevoZport to prove the money was on the way to start the build. Fax charges $7

Ok, they recieve everything, and I think I just wait for it to show up in the Baltimore Harbor......

3 weeks later and about 4 feet of snow on the ground I get a phone call from U-Ocean in New York (nice people). I am told the my package will be leaving Hong Kong in a couple of days. U-Ocean just needs some info.

You can't imagine what the forms looked like! Holy Cow! I had NO idea what these people were asking for. It must have been 10 different forms, ISF's, Bill of Lading...etc...

3)After MANY phone calls and emails, I just signed over power of attorney to U-Ocean so they could handle it. I needed a "broker" to clear customs.

4)A couple of weeks later, I get more phone calls, and emails. The hood arrived in New York and getting ready to ship to Maryland. I need to pay $400 to U-ocean for "broker" fees and customs....WTF!

5)Told by U-Ocean that I need $170 cash for warehouse fees when I pick it up! Holy cow!

    Well here's some photos....the hood looks beautiful.....BUT!!!!

Well here's the kicker....someone F@#$%ED it up!!!!!!!! They have me by the F#$%% balls right now on what to do!!!

Welcome to my nightmare, what do I do now!!!!

    Thanks guys
    -Jason

As long as it was insured I don't see how it's an issue. Call up Revosport and let them handle it. No?

Wow. That sucks bro. I really hope you can work this out in your favor. Hood looks great, minus the damage of course.

I sent an email to Ken at RevoZport, we'll see how that goes.

How the heck do I tell if it's insured....?

    Thanks

Have it filled and paint it if things don't work out...
    How's the fitment?

Thats what the plan maybe, paint the sides/fenders, and keep the center carbon.

    Don't yet know about fittment...

Just leave the vents unpainted... BMWs look funny with the whole hood bulge unpainted

Just color match the hood. It would look best that way, IMHO

    I second Lawrence's and Edmel's ideas:

    a) repair damaged portion and paint the hood whilst masking off the vent slats or,

    b) repair damaged portion and simply paint the entire hood.

I would completely paint it. Carbon fiber looks ricy IMO.

I get compensated for 'diminished value' due to shipping damage and then just have it fixed up. I could have been much worse (IE: a delamanated Hartge hood).

    Thanks guys.

Like I said, I emailed RevoZport and I don't know what that will get me, but we'll see.

I have to think about how to have it painted.

I have seen someones Imola red Mcoupe on the boards here, and he had just the sides/fenders painted, and left the center (I guess a 3' strip) with the vents carbon. I thought it looked pretty good.....but I have to think about it.

Christ, I don't even know how bad the fittment maybe...

Either they worked some magic or it's the best fitting non-oem hood I've seen to date. This is Revozport's own track-prepped M Roadster (now sold:

After seeing those pics, I say paint the whole thing.

If it's any consolation, CFRP collects rock chips like a mother. Given how much debris our cars catch, the whole front end would probably look like that if you didn't paint it.

What about filling and masking off an M flag, then color match the rest of the hood and clear it..? CF motorsport flag?

    That doesn't sound bad.

    That's an awesome CF hood.

I have experienced with shipping commercial goods from China/Oversea. Most of the times, manufacturers are only responsible for the goods up to the departure ports. So, if the ships get sank or get hijacked by ****li pirates, it's really not their concerns anymore.

Hopefully, the seller will forward you information on the shipper. You'll need to file a claim directly with the shipper.

And, since you have rendered your POA (power of attorney) over to U-Ocean, they would have to be the one to pursue the claim.

It will be a convoluted claim process. However, I'm confident that you'll prevail at the end.

    Best of luck.

You told me years ago you weren't going to go nuts modifying your car... boy was THAT a lie! I want to drive it again... every time I think about it, this is how it feels to drive it. Seriously!

    Later, Jason.
