I really don't do a 0-60 everytime I leave the work location, but I often do a ~20-70.
For those that might know Wailea Ike Drive, the road out of Wailea, Maui up and onto the Pi'ilani highway, the turn and onto the straight is where I've wasted fuel many an evening heading home from a job. Living a mile away, I often hear crotch rockets in the late evenings get well into sixth gear. I think the sign says 45 mph.

The 97 and up e36 m3s can do 0 to 60 in 5.4-5.6. I've looked on the BMW website many times in search for it but the don't have a time for it be the car is to old. It can only achieve that time with a good launch. However a lot of websites and numerous sources can't agree on 5.4 or 5.6. I myself got 5.8 seconds in my 98 coupe. (Should have done better I'm not a pro) but to make this very clear to everyone, it definitely does not do anything above 6 seconds unless the car has some sort of problem. The e36 328is does 6.2 and the m3 is much faster (both manual of course). Also my friends 323is stock got 6.6 seconds. So my main point is stop saying it does 6 and 6.5 because you don't know the first thing about and m3. Go drive your civic if you think that time is accurate.

for an autotragic, i bet 6.0-6.2 is right on the money. Manual trans should be in the 5.5 range.

I've got an electronic version of the R+T road test of a Dakar M3/4/5 when it first came out and their instrumented test is 0-60 in 5.6 sec. 1/4 mile in 14.2 trapping @ 99 mph.

I bought a M3 brand new in 1998 and I took it to the drag strip a few times. I was getting 14.0 to 14.4 in the 1/4.

2003 Toyota avalon 0 to 60 7.9 seconds (zeroto60times.com)
2014 Toyota a Avalon trd racing edition 0 to 60 6.4 seconds
1998 bmw e36 m3 5.4 seconds
In the real world its a car that was made in the 90's but it still 1-2 seconds faster then a Toyota avolon 0 to 60 and is much faster all the way until it reached its top speed of 160 mph (limited by differential and gearing by 5 speed gear box)
and it is not hard to get in the 5 second range unless some one like you is driving it and doesn't know how to properly drive a manual car because he's driving his Toyota avolon on a daily basis.
Also so more importantly 0 to 60 is not the final say it can give you a good idea of how quick a car is.
anyone have any good 5-60 times?
I've got a September '99 C+D article that compares a M3/2/5, Audi S4, MB C43 AMG, and Saab 9-3 Viggen. It's the worst instrumented test I've ever seen of the e36 M3 (they got 0-60 in 6.0 and 1/4 in 14.6 @ 95). So, take this as a bad measure, but their 5-60 was 6.3.

the driving experience/dynamics is much more important than the 0-60
I have a 98 e36 m3 and my 0 to 60 is like 8 seconds what is happening to the car how is that possible can anybody help
If it's a 5 speed, shifting proficiency plays a huge role in time...
Definitely, as does launching off the line. But you would have to be pretty bad at both to go from 5.5 stock to 8.0 seconds.
Traction control must be off, obviously, and automatics are probably a second slower than manuals.
If manual and your linkage is original, it may not allow fast shifts. There is also a clutch delay valve you can get rid of that may help.
Most important thing is practice. But look up "money shift" so you know what it is and how to avoid it. Someone, maybe UUC or Understeer posted hand techniques to help avoid mis shift.

I would not own a car that could not be raced to 60. All the magazines road test cars. Sure, if you wanted to make a dedicated drag racer or even a serious street car/drag racer, there are better platforms to start with. But that is far from the guy who just wants to know why he is clocking 8 seconds to 60 instead of 5.5.
You can drag race an E36M3. I have run the quarter at least 100 times in mine. Sure, I could buy an old live axle automatic Mustang instead, but I don't want one of those.
My E36M3 traps mid 11 second at over 130 mph. It is turbocharged. Trying to get the ET down closer to 11. Drag racing is harder than most people think.
Slipping clutch?...

Hell, launching off idle, I suspect that my 3.91 geared Euro 3.2 will take 8 seconds to get to 60. A quick 0-60 is ALL about the launch. (And given the Euro 3.2 high RPM surge, launching well north of 5K is optimal.) Otherwise, you're just lugging up the dead end of the power curve.
