Checking my DD tonight to see which driveshaft it has. Is this out of a 328/m3 with the bigger gumbo or a 325? Guessing 328/m3 but thought I'd check.

The ds is from my old 95 m3 and the diff is from his 98 m3. He's using my 3.15lsd from the same 95 m3

It's a perfect, popular ratio. It's right in the middle, makes for a great daily/weekend warrior. Turbo needs a little bit different ratio to get traction. That's the only reason I swapped

I'm curious to hear what you think about the 3.15 diff. I know once I finish my turbo build the 3.23 will be too short but I'm worried the 3.15 will be too short as well. It's only a 3% difference. That's why I'm curious about a 2.93

    Go 2.93 with 40% lockup.

There one for sale in the FI section with 60% lockup for $900. Are they really that pricy?

When you have them built, it's spendy. I honestly can't really tell the difference from 3.23 to 3.15. It's really subtle.

Unfortunately there are no oem 188mm 2.93 lsd's so they have to be converted, hence the price tag.. You don't have to 40 or 60% lock them necessarily but even a 2 clutch setup will cost some $$ unless you do it yourself.

That's not very good news. With the 3.23 1st gear is so short. I can't imagine it with 350-400-500 rwhp. Makes me think 2nd gear would be just as worthless.

I don't care what diff ratio you have, 2nd gear and 400-500whp is zero traction.

Unless you have the right rubber, in which case say goodbye to your oem drivetrain lol

I'm pretty sure they utilize the LSD out of the 3.15 in conjuction with the 2.93 ring and pinion if I'm not mistaken.

If you have both, I believe butterscotch on the forums can perform the service for a fairly reasonable price.

You are correct but shipping the diff to and from the east coast would suck. There's also a guy (sn is wagon something on here) in the SF area that builds bmw diffs on the regular. Shipping would me a lot cheaper too. I'm sure there are a few people in the PNW that could do it too.

Nope, that won't work. You need a to get the correct, and rare LSD that came in the E36 2.93, or swap the 2.93 ring and pinion out of an E30 into your E36 housing.

There is no aftermarket solution to getting an LSD into the E36 2.93 either.

Which is why my goal is 350-375rwhp cause tires and drivetrains are expensive

Thats not true. There was a dude on here who had more hp who had traction with around 500whp. You really need to increase your diffs lockup, it makes a world of difference.

That's probably true, until you find out the truth is that 'having around 500hp' means the guy put down 500hp in 4th gear on a dyno, and is running boost by gear to limit power in lower gears making the reality much different.
