We have updated our reliability stats for the X3, X5, and X6 based on owner experiences through September 30, 2012.

Repair frequencies, in terms of repair trips per 100 cars per year:

    2012 X3: 71, worse than average

    2012 X5 and X6: 15, better than average

2011 X3: 38, about average, small sample size

    2011 X5 and X6: 58, about average

    2010 X5: 52, about average

    2008 X3: 133, worse than average

    2008 X5: 96, worse than average

    2007 X3: 67, about average

    2006 X3: 53, about average

    2006 X5: 165, worse than average

    2005 X3: 57, about average

    2005 X5: 138, worse than average

    2004 X3: 96, worse than average

    2003 X5: 150, worse than average

2002 X5: 74, about average, likely not accurate

    2001 X5: 121, worse than average

Small sample sizes in all cases except the 2007 X3 and 2011 X5. So these two results should be more precise than the others.

We'll have further updates in February and May. We'd love to provide more precise stats and cover more model years--just a matter of getting more owners involved.

2006 X3: 125, high, very small sample size
2005 X3: 65, moderate, very small sample size

I've attached the new reliability trends graph for the X5. The 2011 hasn't been having a good fourth year. We need more responses to include all model years for both models.

Our reliability stats for the X3 and X5 now cover the year ending June 30, 2015. (Others are over a year behind, and so report how these cars were doing when a year younger.)

    Repair trips per 100 cars:

2015 X3: 30, moderate, very small sample size
    2014 X3: 27, low
    2013 X3: 29, low
    2012 X3: 60, moderate
    2011 X3: 27, low, small sample size
    2008 X3: 45, low, small sample size
    2007 X3: 123, high
2006 X3: 99, high, very small sample size
2004 X3: 90, moderate, very small sample size

    2013 X5: 30, low
    2012 X5: 41, moderate
    2011 X5: 81, high
2010 X5: 114, high, very small sample size
2008 X5: 171, high, very small sample size
2007 X5: 93, high, very small sample size
2006 X5: 195, high, very small sample size
2005 X5: 80, moderate, very small sample size
2002 X5: 50, low, very small sample size

If a model year isn't listed, or its sample size is small, then we especially need more owners involved.

We've updated our reliability stats for the X3 to include owner experiences through the end of 2015, about eight months ahead of other sources.

In terms of repair trips per 100 cars per year--lower is better:

    2015 X3: 16, low, small sample size
    2014 X3: 16, low, small sample size
    2013 X3: 27, low
    2012 X3: 54, moderate, small sample size
    2011 X3: 59, moderate
2008 X3: 67, moderate, very small sample size
    2007 X3: 121, high
2006 X3: 38, low, very small sample size
2004 X3: 77, moderate, very small sample size

    2013 X5: 44, moderate
    2012 X5: 63, moderate
    2011 X5: 74, high
2010 X5: 65, moderate, very small sample size
    2008 X5: 138, high, small sample size
2007 X5: 63, moderate, very small sample size
2006 X5: 86, moderate, very small sample size
    2005 X5: 68, low, small sample size

No stat, or a small sample size? Then we especially need more owners involved for that model year.
