what is the average price for a sunroof repair?

    cliffnotes:

My sunroof broke... I bought an entire assembly from a member on the board... when it arrived i noticed a broken piece of plastic in one of the channels (just saw a broken piece, oddly enough i cant find where it broke off of.... nothing seems to be broken) Plugged it in and it wont open and close completely.

One thing I noticed was that the plugs on the sunroof motors were different. I would up taking the motor that came with my car and swapping it with the motor that came with the roof. These motors arent geared differently are they? The motor swap isnt why the roof doesnt open and close completely is it??

Finally, seeing as I cant find what exactly is wrong or broken.. how much should I expect to pay to have it repaired? Thanks!!

sunroofs are a bitch. The body shop went through 4 before they got it right on my car.

Usually we charage about 6 hrs R/R for a sunroof cassette. Chances are you will have to repair the one you got and make sure it works properly.

If I remember correctly, you have to synchronize the cassette with the motor.

The thing is I LOVE having a sunroof, use it daily.

Anyone else have experiences getting one repaired? What was the cost?

All you probably need is a set of $30 plastic lifting blocks... labor will prob run you 200-400.

its easy to drop the cassette. just got to take down the headliner which is no big deal but you gotta spend some time cramped up in the car.

    A few.
Here, http://www.bimmerdiy.com/diy/e36sunroof, this + a few parts and you should be able to take care of it. Assuming you can handle the job of course. Good luck.

There are a ton of articles in bimmerdiy as well as stickied at the top of the E36 forum. You should be able to repair it yourself.
