Please help with engine code 2A99

Recently picked up a 335xi with around 75k miles. Cars been great but I pulled a 2a99 code followed with a 3100. Shut car off turned back on and it was good for another 40 miles or so. Figured I’d pull both vanos solenoids and clean them with brake clean and swap them around to check if solenoids are bad. This time it lasted a couple hundred miles before the same 2a99 code came up. No matter which solenoid is where it does seem like it’s the 2a99 engine malfunction code coming up. Only thing that I did recently was put Castrol 0w-40 oil which I’m not sure is ll-01 approved anymore. I did buy some liqui moly 5w-40 to swap but I literally just did an oil change. Has anyone ever had this code issue? Should I bite the bullet and change the solenoids out for new ones? Should I just swap the oil and should I use like an engine flush? Please help me it’s just annoying that every time I shut the car off and turn it back on it’s like it never happened for a while and then it’ll just come backtweakbox appvalley https://vlc.onl/
