Sorry I have same post and re-named title. I didnt know how to edit it.
Mech got it started. He said it was a main fuse and some wiring. But how could that be if the car was cranking! Anyways I bought a 2002 530i sport with a manual for $2300.
I wanted your guys opinion on this!
Is it worth it to swap the tranny from 02 ( silver 530) manual to my 01 (blue 530) auto.
The silver supposedly has 109k , I gotta hook up the computer to it to check it, the interior is beat up a bit, and it had some damage to it, a tree had fell on the hood , cracked winsheild and broken air box. Some rust on driver door.
But the engine compartment looks great ( looks like 109k)
And it drives excellent on the highway.
My blue one ( auto ) has 135k
Black interior ( excellent condition)
Body has no rust, i put h&r springs and bilstein shocks( 15k ago)
It seems like eveything is working against me on getting the blue one up, but im not trying to give up. I had mechanic check up on it a few times, and he said it was all good , but they dont really care about preventative maint, they make more $ waiting till something breaks! Engine got water in it from the brake hooster compartment from what I think. Thru the vac line due to cloggage in the bottom of it. Engine was knocking. I hired a friends mech he knew, and I had to boot him off the job, He was butchering some stuff and skipping weekends. So I finished it, valve cover seals, vanos seals, altenator, starter, plugs, belts, etc. Ccv had 71k from previous engine, going to do that to once car running for a while.
Anyways I have worked on the car sometimes even in 2o deg weather outside. Suspention, pullies, clutch fan delete, Zionsville electric fan, aluminum pullies.
I have mech experience, hot rods, jeeps, and put a 1988 500sel mec enhine back together after a blown head gasket. It was hell but I learned alot .038 gap at the hydrolic lifters, i did heli coils, etc, etc.
M54 is a breeze compared to those engines.
Just giving some history on my abilities. I will have a garage for doing the work.
I really appreciate the help of these forums. It made me love owning these cars a hell of alot more, ppl working together! I work and help out my family bizz and $ not so much a issue. I could just find a super duper mint one and end this all, but it wouldnt be as fun or help my advancement on knowing these gems.
I'll be driving one , till I die.
Thx brotherz!

Is there something wrong with the manual car that isn't allowing you to drive it? If it were me I wouldn't be devoting time to doing that swap as I'm sure it will be time consuming and there probably will be other misc things that will come up and drive you nuts. Having said that there are probably some write ups somewhere online about doing this conversion that can prove helpful.
I just have to ask why are those seats bright red?
The manual drives great.
Lol
The seller said, They were sprayed to look like "ALPINA".
So maybe I'm missing something here the silver one is the manual and it drives and runs fine? Yet you want to rip it apart to put that trans in the blue one which appears to look better? Is that right?

Yea, the blue one I had since 2007.
The silver just last week
Yea sorry, my post is a little choppy n mixed.
hold on a sec - is that a red interior? got anymore shots?
seems foolish to swap the trans into the blue e39, why not just daily the manual if it drives great, and maybe if problems arise you can do the swap?
Well Im was thinking to daily the silver and get the blue one ready for swap. But I read a few threads where a few ppl were sayin, dont do it.
I'd kill for that interior if I'm honest, it's awesome. Would clash something bad with my green exterior tho
Well Im not shure but its sprayed, theres a weird kind of chemical smell in the Interior, maybe from the seats. Idk
But seller they were sprayed, Id rather have them original black.
The silver one looks to be in better condition.
I would sell the blue one, and keep the silver one.

Looking for an E39 belly pan , passenger front inner fender liner …
Hey J5
Thx 4 da input.
In the pics the silver does.
Things I noticed so far ( silver)
-hood ( bondo) no biggie
- driver door above top hinge, looks like bondo, maybe there was rust and tried to cover it
-rear right corner inside where battery is, looks like a small accident before, not to bad, I guess they repaired it.
-Also the interior way more wear, panels, the pillar trim folding, rear deck looks sun beat.
-door seals shot
-some engine oil leaks
( not a biggie, I know how to do all of them now)
-blue 530
-hood at nose dented
-needs rear glass
-interior pretty mint
-headliner, pillars all excellent
-all door seals , window seals pretty excellent
-new h&r suspention , bilstein shocks
-zimmerman rotors
-calipers n brakes done
-zionville dual stage fan
-tune up
-depa xenon lights
- no accidents
-engine rebuilt
I was thinkin also of re-painting the blue after swap.
Also was looking at "stuck"s thread in the e60 6spd tanny swap to e39
Hhhmmmm
For a 6-speed swap, you could look at Stuck's thread for the ZF 6-speed, or my thread (linked in sig) for the e46 M3 420g tranmission, which allows you to use a 540i transmission crossmember, while the ZF requires a custom made trans crossmember. Both are good options though.
